I know i may be over analysing but that's just me!
I'm looking around for a nappy bag but i don't really know what I'll need to put in it. So if you'd like to share.....
Also are lots of compartments good, or plain confusing?

In mine i have
2 changes of clothes,
2 cloth nappies for spews
hat
blanket
muslin wrap
dummy
6 nappies
wipes
nappy sacks
change mat (disposable) my bag does have one built in but not used, i only chuck disposable if wee or poo get son it other wise resue.

I think that is all i have.
My bag has 1 large section where i put clothes etc and then a smaller section with clear pockets where i keep nappies etc so easy to find.
Mine has a bottle bag and as i am breatsfeeding i put a water bottle in there for me to keep it cool

1 or 2 spare bibs
a change of clothes
enough bottles / formula for the duration that we'll be out (for my 5 month old that's about 1 for every 3-4 hours)
Wipes (I've started using home made ones which have done wonders for DD's nappy rash)
Sorbaline cream which also works well for DD's nappy rash
Depending on how long we'll be out and where we're going, I've started bringing a couple of toys
Tin of baby food & spoon
I have a Thomas The Tank Engine kid's backpack (iykwim) and I have heaps in it.

Danni- Am still learning, but homemade wipes? Am interested? I have sensitive skin and i thing wipes smell so strongly perfumed. do share your secret! How do you make them?

OMG you all carry so much! LOL.
I just have 3 or 4 nappies for each bub, wipes and bags to put nappies in. (either nappy sacks for sposies, or wetbag for cloth). Our bag has a compartment underneath where I put a change of clothes and that's it! i found all the little pockets inside really annoying, would rather just have it as one big compartment. Oh I also have a flat nappy to use as a change mat.
i guess occassionally I stick a bib in the front pocket too. I don't carry spare dummies, or panadol or anything like that.
emmalou - yes, I carry a handbag separate, coz I don't always take the nappy bag with me. Sometimes I dump it in the car if it's a relatively quick trip to the shops or something. Much easier for me to just keep my handbag as is than to transfer stuff from one to another all the time.

Just this week I started using them. Just cut up some nappy liners (chux cloths would work fine too), soaked them in warm water with a few drops of lavander oil for 10-30 mins then squeezed out excess water and put them in a huggies pop up wipe contaner. I also use sorbaline cream on her bum instead of any normal nappy rash creams. I was finding with normal wipes she would scream coz it stung her nappyrash. The rash is almost gone now.
I've got a Kapoochi Milan satchel and I like the little compartments inside, makes it easier to find things. In my bag I have:
A traditional square cloth nappy for spews/spills, etc
2 sets of spare clothes
3 nappies
Nappysacks
2 Disposable change mats plus the change mat that comes with bag (I put the disposable change mat on the change tables in parenting rooms and then put down the bags change mat)
Antibacterial waterless hand soap
Sample size sudocream
Wipes
Spare dummy
And before I go out I will pack my bottle of water and a snack like piece of fruit etc
My DD is 11 months so I take my handbag everywhere and have a mini bepanthan, 3 nappies, travel wipes, nappy sack, rusks, a bib and dummy. Then my wallet, phone, keys, water bottle that is for both of us (DD loves to drink from Pump bottles). If around lunchtime, jar of food and spoon for DD.
I do have a nappy bag in the car but haven't taken it out in about 6 months. That has more nappies, more wipes, change of clothes, baby care stuff (ie sunscreen, bepanthan, etc), nappy sacks, disposable change mat (great for so many purposes apart from just bums) and I think thats it.
You'll find that you'll go overboard to begin with and then scale it back or add more when/if you need it. ;)

No I haven't re-used them:
Oh, I forgot to add baby panadol. Usualy kids panadol too. My DD2 isalways hurting herself. Bonjela too now that DS is teething.

I have 2 bags. A blue sports bag type thing for longer outings.
& just a black tote thing for shorter trips with nappies, wipes, wrap, toy or 2, dummy, & bum cream.
What's in ours:
I have 2 - one's a bum-bag that came with the stroller (p&Ts) with:
1 nappy (cloth)
a damp washcloth that I use as a wipe in a snap-lock bag (that I then use for the dirty nappy)
a spoon
some change for a phone
a CANTEEN bandanna for a change mat

small sunscreen
sample of bepanthan
It also has 2 drink holders - one for Pip, one spare bottled water.

I generally put the bumbag on the pram/stroller/me when I go shopping and go back to the car if needed. Else for daytrips I'll use the backpack and pop it under the pram. If I'm carrying Pip in his meitai I'll use the bumbag cause I wear him on my back.
I have a phil and ted bum bag thing that is small and hold wallet and phone.
If i dont use that walllet etc in nappy bag. If we r only going on a quick trip i use a supermarket green bag with nappies and wipes and clothes under pram
