Going Blonde?
I was thinking of scaring the crap outta DH and going blonde while my hair is short.
Is this ok to do when pregnant?
I have always been a redhead and had foils etc in the past but never the whole hog! What do you call it - full head of foils or colour???
Also anyone in brisbane know of a cheapish hairdresser or student school that i can get it discounted at? Need to learn to live on a single wage now and i think DH will flip if he saw the credit card bill at a normal salon.
Would you brave it yourself?

Welll, i did a lot of thing in my pregnancy before i knew i was UTD and dying my hair platinum blonde from black was one of them
-
as long as the peroxide doesnt touch your scalp it should be ok right?
-
Pink I think you find you will get different opnions on this one from everyone. I always colour my hair in pregnancys. But others say you shuoldn't.
BUT I did want to say. Your a red head right? So am I. Have you gone blonde before? Because I did it once & it looked terrible! You would think that going lighter is good because red heads tend to have fair skin also. But for me it was not the case. I looked so washed out it wasn't funny.
Make sur eyou think about it long & hard before doing it. I went the other way & had my hair cut short & dyed black, Looked great & so unexcpected but suited me. Now I colour my hair a dark brown. The black was good but now my hair is longer the brown is better.
But Im thinking of getting it back to its more natural colour as I find it hard to keep up with tinting my eye brows & lashes to match LOL.;

I definately look washed out without makeup - i have had a half head of blonde before and i know from this. :)
And i know it takes a lOOOOOOOOOOnNnngggg time to get to a decent blonde due to my tones :)
I am looking at growing my hair soon and i guess i though the only time i will ever try it fully is when it is short like it is now....mmm

just be prepared togo back & have some colour put back into it incase you hate it.
-
lol yep! i will be - i guess that is why i am trying to find a cheap option in case iykwim

I would get it done properly at the hairdresses & then if you don't like it, colour it yourself to fix it. Which you do by findng a colour that you want, say a med brown. But bfore adding that to your hair add the colour from another packet thats a red based colour to your hair first. So just the colour stuff, don't mix it with the developer. Just add the colour like a "pre rinse" to your hair, don't wash it out & then add your normal colour on top. Thats what I had to do. You have to put the some pigment back into your hair before you recolour over bleached hair.

I have dont have an answer on getting it done while pregnant i think its up to you.
Now as for the colour. I too went blonde from dark brown and it took me a long time. My best friend is the manager of a rather top salon, and she did this for me at home I only ever did a whole head of highlights, i think this is a better option than doing the whole head of hair. The other thing to think about and i know this sounds contradictory is if you put 2x blonde highlight and then 1x light brown it actually makes you look more blonde ( i know it sounds crazy i was really shocked). And it also stagers your re growth so there is not one solid line when it grows out.
If there is a particular salon that you like, you could ring them up and ask them if they have trainee's that need to practise colouring, and that way you may even get it free.
I do also agree with it changing your skin tone! I was shocked when i first went blond ( I had thought about it for a long time).
good luck hope it makes you feel fantastic!!! :)

oh man no wonder i havent done it b4 sounds so complicated FJ! lol
Krissy. i dont have a hairdresser as just moved a few months back to brisbane and trying to find one :)

Well i have made an appointment for alocal hairdresser and their apprentice will do a cut and full head of foils for free. SO hoping it looks ok - if it doesnt then i will rebook for them to fix it i guess.

i had my hair done from dark brown to blonde my friend did it and eventhough she is qualified she messed it up. so i went to my cousin whos got her own salon and it cost ?20 (not sure $) but she did it perfect and i only had to go once after spending ?100 on trying to get it done by my friend.i actually look more tanned now iv gone blonde and i have to get my roots done every 3-4 weeks.
hth and enjoy the pampering
(i went and had my colours done by my cousin when she was training and it turned out brilliant - and cost nothing)

-
Oooh I really want to go blonde.. but every time I go to the hair dressers I chicken out and go dark or red again!!
My DH reckons I'll look great with blonde hair, maybe I'll get it done for my birthday or something.
-
LoL about your DH thinking you would look great blonde.
My DH absolutly thinks i look HOT!! blonde. I told him it costs alot to keep it this was if I didnt get it through traniees, and he said "I dont care how much it costs!!!" WTF I was soooo shocked lol. But a rather nice compliment :)

I wouldn't risk it. I've known a few pregnant women who've ended up with unexpected colors when hoping to go blonde (even if they were already blonde) - something to do with hormones I think.

I've heard a lot of varying thoughts on colouring your hair while pregnant. Personally i have done it... but not as frequently as when I am not pregnant. I usually dye my hair once a month... but that might be too frequent when pregnant. How fast does your hair grow (it usually grows faster when pregnant i think).
I've recently gone darker... I was gradually going lighter from a dark brown... but it got to a point that it didn't seem to suit me... so all of a sudden I went back to the darkest (nearly black) shade of brown that I was when i was younger. My eye brows and lashes are black anyhow so it suits. My skin is quite fair.
I say be brave, it's only hair, but just be wary of colouring it too frequently when pregnant.
