(little bit long) what now?

Im going to move this to pregnancy announcements, I think thats a bit more appropriate. Okay, Hi this is my first post, so I hope I'm in the right spot. We have only been ttc for one month so Im feeling like it's really quick. So I had a faint positive yesterday morning and one the night before that. From all I have read here I should take that as a positive. So my question is what next? Presumably I need to go to the doctors to get a blood test. So how soon is to soon to do this? Do they need any sort of internal exam? As I have moved my childhood doctor who has all my history, etc. is an hour away do I need to see him or can I find a brand new one local too me now? As you can tell I'm a bit confused.

I, too, fell pregnant after just one month with my current baby and was suprised by how quick it was. So, CONGRATULATIONS!

Yep, go to your GP and they will do a blood test just to confirm officially that you are pregnant. No other exams will be done at this visit. They may ask you a few questions regarding your diet and background medical history and whether you smoke or not though. They will then ask you if you want to go public or private and if you choose to go private, they will give you a referral to your chosen hospital.

I'm unsure about the procedure of you go public but if you choose to go private, you wont actually see your Obstetrician until you're about 8-10 weeks at which time they will do an internal ultrasound (does not hurt) just to measure your baby and give you a more accurate due date. At this appointment, they will also do a detailed medical history, weigh you, take your blood pressure etc. Believe it or not, you will probably (depending on your carer) get a little photo and maybe even a DVD of your baby even at this early stage.

You have another scan (external) at 13 weeks to test for Downs Syndrome and other abnormalities and another scan (external) at 20 weeks just to make sure everything is AOK in there. The 20 week scan is amazing - you can see eyes and a mouth and little fingers and ears!

I think your Ob then sees you once a month until you're about 7 months pregnant, then once a fortnight until you're about 8.5 months and then weekly until you finally deliver.

Like I said earlier, the procedure might be completely different of you go public though so this is just from a private perspective. Either way, you're about to start a wonderful journey!!
