Shoes.. how can I get him to wear them?

About 2-3 weeks ago I bought Oscar some shoes and he won't wear them!! We are in the car most days and I put them on his feet so he can get used to them but he just cries and tries to take them off! As soon as they go on it's like I have chopped his feet off and he won't move! He is slowly getting better and crawling in them :rolleyes: but refuses to walk!! The first day we got them he walked to me because he was so hysterical (Yes, I felt like a mean mummy) that he just wanted to get to me and have a cuddle. He walked fine in them the whole way!!! That's the only time it happened though!

So my question is... how do I get him to wear shoes?? He loves being outside and wants to walk when we're out but I don't want to put him down without shoes on when we're out in public.. home is fine but who knows what is on the ground at the shops etc.

Just a thought are the soles hard or flexible, I had to get shoes for my first dd that were soft soles she walked the bottoms off in a week, I brought a few pairs and after a while moved to harder soles slowly.

Sorry Oshani, I can't really help - DD is one of the strangest children I know - she loves shoes! She begs for them to be put on every morning and loves saying the word shoes - she has always been fascinated by other kids wearing shoes and points them out to me. Perhaps you could show Oscar your shoes and other people's shoes, describe them and maybe get him interested in them?

They can be so funny with shoes can't they! I found that DD didn't want a bar of them for ages and they used to freak her out, but then about a month ago she decided that they are fun to wear! Now she asks me to put them on her all throughout the day- drives me nuts!
Anyway, maybe Oscar will see the light soon and start to click with them! I certainly didn't do anything different to get DD used to them, she just kind of hit a certain age.

How long has he been walking and is he used to wearing soft shoes or has he never worn any until this pair?
With my DS, who also love being outdoors, I tell him "shoes on" if he want to go outside. He might make a bit of a fuss at first but if I open the door as I put them on he soon forgets as he wants to play. So the rule is, if he won't wear them he must stay indooors. Could you try this at home (ie in your back/front yard with a motivating game/toy like a ride on bike or something) to get him used to them? I think they should be walking for at least 2 months before wearing hard shoes but can wear soft shoes anytime. DS got used to wearing his soft shoes from around 7/8mths of age so the change to hard shoes wasn't too dramatic.

I can't help much either.. My just turned 3 yr old son has just started wearing shoes this month.. Although he did wear them rarely at first walking age.. henow loves to put them on..

We gave him the optipn when out and about. Stroller/trolley or shoes?? he always chose stroller/trolley.. but the odd time he did say no walk we said well shoes.. but nope.. Stubborn one he is

When we graduated from soft sole to hard sole shoes DS used to stand there like he was rooted to the spot and couldn't move LOL. We just made a big BIG fuss of him "oh look at you in your SHOES" etc and when he tentatively took a step "oh aren't you clever walking in your SHOES, just like Mummy's shoes and Daddy's shoes" blah blah. A bit wearing but it worked...! As soon as he started to get angry we would take them off again. It was hilarious watching him walk in them at first, it looked such it was such a strange sensation for him.

At first Claire hated shoes. She wouldnt have them on her feet and everytime we put them on, she would take them off. It took a couple of weeks of persisting with it.. we just had to keep putting them on and we'd talk about how good her shoes are, dont they look lovely, look at mummys shoes etc and now she LOVES shoes. She goes over to the shoe rack and finds her shoes and then brings them over to me and tells me she wants them on. We had soft sole and hard sole shoes.

I have bought him soft ones little Dunlop Volleys. Maybe I just leave it be for the moment and try again later. It's not the end of the world but it would be much easier ;)

what about slippers???????

that way you can still put him down.
they wouldn't be as tight as a shoe.
