severe abdominal pain
i am 9 wks and 5 days pregnant (roughly) with my first baby and woke in the middle of the night with severe abdominal pain. we went to the hospital where the doc took a urine sample and said i had a urinary tract infection, gave me some tablets to take and go home to rest. i returned to the hospital 3 times cause i couldn't keep anything down and they just said keep trying on the tablets. after another rough, painful night of little sleep i awoke today still with abdominal pain but i am able to keep things down and i feel a little better with help from the panadol.
i went to my g.p this morning and she did a urine test and said it's normal and doesn't think i have a UTI, but take the tablets anyway, it could be a number of things and see how i go.
has anyone else had similar pains caused by a UTI or anything else. i originally worried about a miscarriage but have had no bleeding whatsoever and the abdominal pain is all over not just in the lower area so they won't give me a US unless this happens.
just a little worried, as i've never been so sick before.

Hi Beau - the same thing happened to me and I was hospitalised - they thought I had appendicitis.
I know this sounds a bit gorss but have you been able to poo??
Sometimes constipation can cause EXTREME pain (thats what it was with me) and i couldn't even hold water down.
I hope you feel better xoxox

If the pain continues go back to your doctor and ask for a referral for an ultrasound to get things checked out.

yep sounds like a bowel issue to me also. Best drink tonnes of fluid and flush your systems out. Panadole will help you relieve your spasms (if that is what it is) and then you may just have to ride it out. Have you tried a heat bag? That can sometimes help and also a nice warm shower with water running over your tummy and back.
It is scary and seeing this as my first as well I freak out with every twinge I feel so your not alone.

Hi, I had really severe cramps and pains with my first. As the others have suggested it was caused by constipation. I have IBS so pregnancy hormones really irritated it. Even without IBS Preganacy hormones can cuase constipation and lots of wind!! (Gross I know).. My GP was great and did an ultrasound so i knew all was ok with the bub.If continues I would def ask for a scan just to ease your mind that all is ok..

if you go have an ultra sound and they confirm that bubs is ok and there are no blockages sometimes they give you "the drink" which is like human draino and empties you out. Not plesant but you feel much better afterwards :)

thanks for all you replys, thought i'd give an update,
i went back to the hospital the next day as i could barely walk and got admitted into A+E then transferred to a ward and put on a drip for 5 days. i've just been discharged this avo. they did a ultrasound and the babies fine (phew).
but i had a blockage in my bowel most prob constipation, they said that would cause the abdo pain but not the temps, or infection in my blood tests. they we're concerned it was my appendix but couldn't do a ct scan so they kept me in for obs.
my blood work said i was improving everyday and my temp went back to normal. i had diahorrea (sorry) due to the drip which made me feel better. i've been released yet i still have the slight abdo pain, and i look about 5 months pregnant with a huge painful, bloated belly.
i'm glad to be home i felt like a pin cushion, both my arms are so bruised, but i had lovely care, it'd just a little wired to spend 5 days in hospital yet still not know where the infection came from. i think it was constipation....
