Hi there,
My DS is 8.5 months old and I have not had a period yet.
He is exclusively breastfeed (apart from some solids now) and always has been and currently has around 4 to 5 bf's a day.
Just wondering whether anyone is in a similar position with not having a period return and for those ladies who have finished bf'ing, when did it return?
Is it possible to ovulate and not have a period due to bf'ing?

got mine back at 9 months! breastfed til 18 months
sorry to say but I didnt get mine back until after I had stopped BF but I have very light AF that only last 3 days anyway so always it was due to this.... There are plenty of women who get PG while BF so it must happen...
At 7 months i still did not have my period back and decided to weant DD.
I am still waiting for my period to return but then again i did get a BFP 2 weeks after weaning!
- just a hunch with morning sickness that i took a test.
There is a huge poll in the post natal section about this.
Still havent seen AF here and DD is a week younger than your little man.
BFing still at 16 months, and no sign of AF! And given that we've almost always comp fed, I'm very surprised, but not disappointed LOL.
DS is two in a few weeks and still breastfeeding. AF came back when he was 17 months.
Mine came back at 9 months...
With DD#2 AF musta been around the corner around the 9 month mark too.....-coz i got pregnant without seeing the dreaded witch !!!
Got mine back at 2mths ...
... and BF sadly only until 5mths as bub's weight dropped due to severe colic & the specialist (& also health nurse) recommended I also formula feed to get her weight up ... of course my worst fear came true ... bub realised bottle is easier than the boobie & therefore went off me :rolleyes:

... I hear you there NIC ... Me too - so jealous of them all ... ;) ... And I was so looking forward to having no period for yonks (thought that was a super payoff after having giving birth) ... um, I must have been dreaming there ... Augh, could only happen to me, LOL :rolleyes:

I'm nearly at 6 months & haven't seen AF yet.
I'm hoping she'll take her time.
After the girls though I'm sure AF took longer to return than the end of BFing. By a few months. Maybe I'm just imagining it!
I bled for 3 weeks ofter DD, and have had AF every 2 weeks cince. Full BF also... SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Very Jealous of you ladies who havent had them for months mut must say its a good thing for me... I didnt have them for 2 yrs previous to me getting preggas so its my body paying me back...

Abscence of your period for an extended period of time is one of the most fabulous benefits of breastfeeding. Less than 7% of women fully breastfeeding have their period when their baby is under 6mnths of age. About 37% get it when their baby is between 6-12 mnths, 48% between 12 and 24mnths, and for a lucky 8% it doesn't return for over 24mnths. So, you are well within the range of normal. Personal experience? Got pregnant with no 2 when no 1 was 15mnths old, without ever having a period. Got a fabulous 22 month break whilst tandem feeding 1 and 2, then got pregnant with no 3 - had 15 mnths before my period came back with her.

Lochia until 2.5 weeks.
AF 5 weeks.
AF 8 weeks.
AF 15 weeks.
AF 25 weeks.
