Did your toddler Behaviour change as your #2 due date approched

im 8 weeks out from my No2 due date and for the past 2 weeks or so my little 14 month old has been waking during the night screaming his head off and trying to get out of his cot and cuddle me.

he has always been a pretty good sleeper and usually goes right back to sleep if he does wake up.

this morning i dropped him off at daycare (he goes 1 day a week) and he screamed his head off trying to get back to me. it was heaps distressing i almost took him back home.

the daycare lady sais it was probably becasue he had last week off (sick so we spent all week together) and that my due date is getting close and they can sense things.

I feel guilty as - he was so upset.. god i feel like crying now writing this.

My eldest three all went through a period of night waking during my subsequent pg's/ With my eldest it was a rather unpleasant shock to the system LOL as until that point (when I was about 30wks pg and he was about 17.5mths old) he'd been an absolute angel. It wasn't ever bad, but just constant and enough to make me feel over tired. I think sometimes they pick up on how we are feeling and the way they act is a reflection of how we are - if we are tired and crabby then they seem to be that way, or are easily upset as well kwim?

Plus if he's been sick then he's probably still a bit clingy anyway. I hope this passes for you soon

Maybe he's sensing a change is on the horizon....i dont know. My DD#1 dropped her day sleep completely when DD#2 arrived - she was 29 months, a bit young if you ask me. I was calling tresillian, reading up on all the child behaviour books i could get my hands on. But in the end i just realised it was making me a mental wreck and causing havoc on her little mind....(forcing her to have a day sleep when clearly she didnt want to). I dont know if it was the result of #2 coming along....i guess i will never know.

I would defn say spending the last week together prob has had some impact - the routine has been thrown a bit, i know whenever we go on holidays, or we have a late night, and the routine is out, it takes the girls a few trys to get back to normal...i hope your little one is okay...he's just missing his mumma too, nothing unhealthy about that !

Oh sweety don't feel guilty. It is such a huge adjustment for everyone involved not just our little ones! As the PP have mentioned it is normal for them to pick up on the changes, and TBH for me I don't know if she would be going through these anyway or not, but we too have had more frequent night waking(easily settled by a nice big cuddle) early morning wake ups, and day naps are all over the place. As far as daycare goes too hun, our bubs are at an age that separation anxiety is at it's highest, Izzy has never cried if I leave the room/house but again she has started crying if I go up to Coles without her and leave her with DH.... If he has been sick too it might take him a while to get back to normal hun. Lots of hugs and cuddles, and time together when you do have time with him and I'm sure you will be fine. :hug:
