Bum Genius Booster stuffing technique

I just bought Bum Genius V 3.0 which I'm trying to figure out before baby comes. I was a bit surprised they didn't come with pictorial instructions.

I find it really difficult to get the booster flat inside the pocket without it instantly bunching up. What's the technique? It's really hard with the pocket folded down to newborn size.

They say they have an insert stopper ... I don't know what that's referring to. There's no "stopper" as far as I can tell. The entire pocket opens up inside and the booster can move around easily.

Did I miss something?

I haven't stuffed it for the small size yet (waiting on more to be delivered so I can use for both) so I use both inserts for DS.

I put the inserts in, hold the end of it, while bringing my hand down towards the pocket opening so it flatterns by my palm on the way down - if that makes sense?

Bit clueless about the stopper unless they mean the snaps on the bigger insert where you fold it down?

I must be hopeless because I try that same technique but when I remove my hand it instantly starts bunching in the middle, because on the small setting there's so much extra "material" on the pocket itself.

I wish it would clip in or something. Maybe once I have an actual baby and the nappy is on the actual baby's actual butt it will stay in place. I'm just keen to learn and be prepared. Want as few surprises as possible when the time comes. :redface:

How i do it is...

place both inserts on top of each other....insert one end in..and lay the rest of the insert on my arm (palm facing upwards) then slide it in...pull the nappy tight so all the insert goes in.

I think the stopper they are referring to it the 'flap' that covers the insert at the back?

ive had a look at the pictures us retailers are supplied with and they are hopeless at showing what to do!

ETA: I tired it on the smallest setting and had no problems with bunching

Have you snapped the booster to the smallest setting? I stuff them like Gudism and never have a problem. I'd say the insert stopper is the overlapping bit of material at the back.

Maybe it's just the newborn insert on its own because it's so thin. Or it's me. With a newborn, the newborn insert is enough on it's own? I guess I'll find that out eventually.

Are we stuffing the pocket with the PUL side up or the lining side up? So basically are we trying to stuff into the curve of the nappy or sort of pushing against it?

I do lining side up...

Not tried BumG on a newborn....but this time for BumbleBee ill be using both inserts...only cos all 3 of my kids will be in the nappies and i dont want separate piles for each...LOL

I tried it just then with only the newborn insert...and still had no problems....wonder why your getting bunching.

we also had the bunching problem. now i dont put the liner in the insert. i found that it was much easier to have it sitting just inside the nappy itself.
also we didnt use the Bum Genius for awhile after she was born as it didnt fit very well at all. once she got to about 5kgs it was all good and we didnt look back.

just thought i would share our rather 'mad' way of doing it! LOL!

I don't have any problem but I stuff first and then snap it to the setting, I get the feeling you are setting and then stuffing?
I could be doing it wrong but thats what works for us!

Yes I was snapping the pocket down first then putting in the booster. So I tried it the other way and it was much better. It lay down flat and then then the pocket snaps hold the booster in place.

I had nooooo idea when I first got my OS pockets, I was like, what are the snaps for :doh:.

Ash, do you snap for size each time you stuff the nappy? Doesn't that take heaps longer (or are you just more efficient and coordinated than me :p)? I suppose if you have multiple babies and change for each one then that would work, but having one baby I just set and forget until he grows out of that size.

Kuraiza, I too found the newborn inserts bunched up heaps by themselves (with or without baby), but the sized inserts don't. I've just gone onto the largest setting and am finding it bunching again, so have gone back to the middle setting as the more snug the nappy is against the baby the less chance of bunching.

Oh, and Cassius, am I reading right in thinking that you put the insert directly against bub's skin? Perhaps you haven't had any problems with it, but it's not recommended putting microfibre directly against the skin - because it is so absorbent it easily dries the skin and can cause irritation.

Yup Suse, that's right... I never ever thought to leave it, i always unsnap when I wash. I guess I could try not doing it but I find by the time i mess around unscrunching the insert its just easier to unsnap and resnap!
