A little bit of info and encouragement made a big difference!
I heard a great story today from the dad of one of my daughter's school friends - we were at their house for a play date.
One of his work colleagues was about to have her first baby. He told his wife, "She's just terrified!" His wife suggested he check out my website, and there he found an article about the pain of labour (it might have been the one by Sarah Buckley or the one by Andrea Robertson.) He printed out the article and gave it to his work colleague.
He said that reading this article put birth in a whole new light for her. New mums can be inundated with so much negative and scary stuff about birth. Sometimes a positive message and a reminder 'you're strong, it's normal, you can do it' can be enough to give someone a lightbulb moment!
He heard back from his colleague, she had the baby normally with no pain relief and is really pleased with the experience overall. She says the article helped her see the pain of labour in a completely different light. She was no longer afraid, felt more calm, and actually started to look forward to the experience of giving birth.
I'm really glad that just one little piece of information made a difference in someon'es life. I'm also really impressed that this dad of three took the initiative to share it with his colleague! He said, "This information should be more out there, more available!"
