Should I try other brands?

I have decided to venture into the world that is MCN and ordered the starter pack from Baby Beehinds. So far, I've used all three nappies (2x bamboo fitted, 1x AIO) in the pack, and even though we've had some messy deposits, no leaks or anything - even when DS slept in his fitted for four hours meaning he was in it for five. Very happy with them :) So, I went back and bought another five (3x bamboo fitted, 2x AIO). They arrived today so I'll be able to use them later this week, meaning I can get a real feel for what it will be like to use them full time.

My question is though, since I'm so happy with the BBH, is it worth venturing into a different brand? DS is almost 17 months and we will be using sposies for the newborn when he/she arrives in Jan (we have one and a half boxes left over/given to us). I guess I'm a bit hesitant because I don't want to spend money on something I don't like.

I'm keen to go to full-time cloth, but it will take a while for me to build up a stash financially. Am I crazy if I put all of my eggs in the BBH basket?

Dis - i am the same i have about 24 BBB and i love them. they work on DD and so if they arent broke why fix it?

I have ventured and got some preloved Bumgenius, hautes pockets and itti bittis. most ly ffor DH as they are AIO/pockets and he does have to fuss with covers. But i know that if DD is sleeping or we have a long trip my BBB wont leak and i always go back to using these.

Perhaps pick up a few seconds (IB) or preloved if you want to try others out but there is nothing wrong with all your eggs in one basket!

I prefer to try all different kinds of MCN's...but if you find something you like, perhaps stick with it!

I feel exactly the same..I am awaiting bub nos 1 in November and have decided to start off with disposables for those first few months and then when I am feeling a bit more in control venture down the MCN path. So far in my research I have babybeehinds at the top of my list - bamboo with covers PUL & WOOL. Just wondering if you could tell me how you found the AIOs and what sizes did you buy???Is you bub a chubby in the legs bub or a skinny legs??

HAve you considered flat nappies as a way to go cloth cheaply? They're not hard to use and are great for when it's raining as they dry very quickly. Best of all they're cheap. We often use them when we're at home, and save the 'better' ones for when we're out and about. If you need extra absorbancy you can add boosters (BBH, for example, sells bamboo cloths you can fold up and put in nappies).

Annabelle, DS is 17 months so already in the 'large' size for the AIOs and the covers. So far I haven't thought far enough ahead to get AIOs or covers for the new bub. The AIO is fine, and we've even left it on for longer than the recommended 3 hrs with no signs of leakage. DH really likes it as it's pretty much just like a disposable. Takes longer to dry though.
I wouldn't call DS's legs either chubby or skinny, he's an in-betweeny!

Marcellus I'm not keen on the flats. Don't know why, they just seem like too much hard work. Although, I used to think that about MCN's too, so I'm likely to see the light there too :) We have a fantastic mini-hills-hoist style clothes line that we have set up in our back room for rainy days. I've found that I can dry the BBH bamboo nappies in less than 48 hours, which is pretty good.

We used all the same brand last time, but that was near 6 years ago, and there were not all the different types available that there is now. I tried a few samples of others that were coming on the market towards the end of our DS nappy days, and they seemed fine, but what we had been using had been fine too.
This time we are using some BBH and some flats with ties (Disana) for easy dry time since the BBH can take a while. And I will be attempting to make a few myself to help save a bit of cash. Though this does require the initial outlay of suitable materials etc and time researching patterns etc, plus having your own machine.
I looked at BBH and liked the look of them, compared them with the ones we had had for DS (since sold them before we knew we were expecting) and thought they would be good. We have not trialed them yet, but Im sure they will be good, as the old ones we used last time were, and the BBH design looks an improvement on that.
I`d rather just get one that works and stick with it myself, if its a reliable brand why take more time and money getting samples of others? - unless you enjoy doing things that way, which some people do.

I have around 20 BBH/BBBs and love them - they're my "everyday" nappy. The PUL pockets & Minky pockets / AI2s are my "going out" nappies.

If you're going to try anything else, may I suggest a night nappy? My fave are snoozywuns (by widdlewuns)but "Good night Sleep tight" are great too. They tend to have more layers of bamboo and have a thick polar fleece (MM) cover on them so are yummmmy. With the GNST I use longies / shorties at night as PJ bottoms.

Thanks Kaz, I might venture into the night nappy domain a little further down the track. I'm planning on going full-time cloth when I finish up at work and have more time at home - so I have a few months (2.5 not that I'm counting!!!) left :)

Oops, I just realised that BBH most likely means Baby Beehinds Hemp not Baby Beehinds. I only have the bamboo ones. Sorry if that confused anybody!

I started off with flats and found them easy. Then was given fitted by the council and didn't like them, but decided to try some bamboo fitted ones, which I liked.

So I did a mix of bamboo and flats for the next size up, then got the odd AIO and stuffable and played around a bit. I do have "odd ones" that I like but tbh I'd be happy with just flats still if I hadn't been made to experiment a bit with the free nappies (which I don't use but are great for Nursery!).

You don't have to have fifty different types of nappy. I find that DH and I like different nappies so it pays to have different sorts for us, but if you're both happy with what you have then there's no need to do anything differently - unless you have a clothy friend so can see other nappies before you buy.

There is absolutly no need to look any further if you are happy with your baby behinds! (Coming from the girl who HAS to try ALL of them! :rofl: )

Being a first timer to MCN I tried everything to start with. My original order consisted of 2 or so of 10 different brands and types. Fitted, pockets, AIO's etc.

After much trial and error, buying and selling, I now use nothing but Bubblebubs. I'm happy knowing that I tried other options and found that these worked best for me.

For a newborn I looooooved the Kissaluvs! Fitted nappy that had a snap down area for the cord! I will be getting more of those when #2 comes around.
