Just wondering if any-one knows of a nappy disposal service. I know some councils have them (at an extra cost) which is fine, but mine doesnt so i was wondering if any-one knew who i could contact in relation to getting a special bin for disposable nappies that is then picked up and taken away and dealt with in a more eco friendly way than just throwing it in the normal trash.
I'm in S.E Suburbs of Vic if that helps.
Ok so I am going to ask a silly question. What are the more eco friendly alternatives than just throwing them away. I have never heard of such a service but would be really interested to know what is out there. Thanks for asking this Kirra
As far as i know, where i live they used to have a special bin that would be picked up by a special truck that would be for your dispoable nappies only, they would then take it away and somehow recycle them so that they wouldnt end up in normal landfill.
Hopefully we'll get someone who knows a lil more to pop in and give us some more info. My council is of no help.
There is one in Geelong that i know of.... but sorry can't help in SE burbs.
My Planet used to provide a nappy collection service in Melbourne, some councils used to help subsidise the cost. A couple of years ago they shut down due to excessive demand and were meant to start up again once they worked out how to cope with it all. I have not heard of them since and their webpage is no longer working. It was a good service, pity it has gone.
From what I can remember the wood pulp was removed and the plastics. The plastics I think were used in recycled plastic outdoor furniture. The water used in the process was also reused.

Astrid- i've been googling myplant and am trying to find out more info, turns out they were pretty close being in noble park which is only 20 minutes away. pity they have closed down.
