Is he ready?

Hmmm, not sure what to do. Last Sun was a hot day here and Kai has been showing some signs of being ready to TT. So we were outside all day, with the potty and him nudie-rudie. I was amazed . . . he did two poos and 3 out of 4 wees in the potty, without me asking him or putting him on it. He would just go and sit and do it! Then of course, I'd make a huge fuss and he'd get a sticker. So I thought, Yup, we're ready. The next day we were visiting my SIL and I didn't want him making a big mess every where so I asked him every 1/2 hour if he needed to go, as well as taking the potty every time we moved to another room. Nothing in the potty and two pees on the floor (one on the carpet:doh:). Since then there's been only a couple in the pot and a lot of messes.

So I thought we'd leave it for another month or so. But we bought him undies (which he chose of course) and we've put them on the change table where his nappies used to go, so he can see them all the time.

But he's making a big fuss about not wanting to wear nappies. What do I do? Make him wear nappies for another few weeks and keep on about 'special' undies and how we can wear them when all wees and poos go in the pot? Or let him go without nappies and keep cleaning up messes? (A PITA with a baby in the house needing attention too!)

Tonight we thought we'd let him wear his undies for an hour or so, just to get the feel of them. Asked him a couple of times if he needed to go . . . no . . . peed in his undies just after we asked him.

What do you think?

(I should probably add that he's feeling pretty insecure with the arrival of his little sister. I'm a bit concerned that this has potential for being an attention-seeking thing too)

ohhh what a good little boy. I reckon go with it, put him in his knickers and see how you go. Theres always going to be some stumbling blocks. My DD#2 is the same age as your boy (born 19 Feb 2006), we've started her recently.....she will do wees in potty, but poos are another story, will happily do them in her knickers:rolleyes:

Where do you have the potty? This may not seem hygenic, but ATM we have it in our family room, so when she's in there,playing, and she needs to go, its handy, its right there. I empty it straight away of course. We will get it to the toilet later, plenty of time for that, i jsut want it to go in the potty first LOL.

I dunno, if i were you i would roll with the TT, it sounds like he has the capacity to understand what is going on.....good luck !

I do the same thing, lol.
I also agree, just go with what he wants to do. He's doing it on his own, Take the opportunity to see what happens. I'm going through the same thing with DD. it's on and off.. one day she will refuse to wear a nappy and others she only wants a nappy.

I'm reading up on TT at the moment (starting TT DS this week) and they say to have the potty where the child can see it... so potty in the family room really would be ideal. They then go on to say gradually move it into the bathroom, or have more than one potty placed around the house (playroom, bathroom, family room).

I recommend books by Gina Ford. I have the contented toddler book and it has helped me with a number of issues. I can't personally tell you about her TT method because we havent started yet, but it seems like it will definately work. Basically she tells you to get rid of the nappies all together (apart from naps and night) and just clean up the mess. Kids learn quickly and eventually would prefer to do their business in the potty rather than on themselves.

I also have the pottyinthe family room soit canbe seen and gotten toin a hurry (that and when he is wtching a DVD he wont go ifhe cant see it :rolleyes:) I am also going to use jocks as it is more logical than training pants (practically nappies :lol:). Just go with what he wants thatis why I am TT Josh and hopefully his brother will follow suit as well, but then Ineed to find some jocks for a size 0 :pray:
