Anticardiolipin antibodies

This is my first ever post here... hope I'm in the right place.

My husband and I started trying to conceive at the start of this year. I have been pregnant twice so far, but both have been missed miscarriages. I think they stopped growing around 5-6 weeks, but I didn't find out till around 8-9 weeks both times. I have had two d&c's.

After the second loss my OB offered to do some tests, most of which came back normal. He did mention that I had a low positive for anticardiolipin antibodies, but said that this was very common and probably had nothing to do with my losses. He said that he would expect a further test in 6 weeks would be back to normal levels. However, I just called up for the results of this second test and they said it is still a "low positive". The OB still doesn't seem at all worried, just wants me to repeat the test in another 6 weeks.

Has anyone experienced this, and is it possibly a reason for my losses? Or is the doctor right, and it is no problem? He has told me to take 1/2 an aspirin per day "just in case" but nothing more than that.

I am not sure what to do... it seems strange that I could have two tests that come back as positive results and still be told that there is nothing wrong?

Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

My sister has this. She has to take aspirin throughout her pregnancies for them to be successful.

As long as she keeps taking the aspirin then she is fine. Thats about all the information I have though - sorry!!!!

Sorry to hear of your losses. I wish you all the best for when you decide to try again.

I have tested with a low postitive for anticardio- and then was re-tested and got a negative. Apparently many things can trigger a low positive- for me- the dr thinks it may have been because at the time i got tested i was taking alot of telfast (anti-histimenes) because i was getting hives... but we dont really know for 100%.

If you do have it- i dont think it effects you in early pregnancy- a friend of mine does actually have it- and it more of a concern later in the pregnancy as it can cause clots in the placenta.

That's weird SB cos my sis had a miscarriage at 8 weeks because the baby stopped developing cos of the placenta wasn't right - and then she had a stillborn because her OB told her to stop taking the aspirin (cos she has c-sections) a week before the c-section date.

This is my first post on here as well. I am TTC at the moment after having two miscarriages in the last two years. My Ob found I have low level anticardiolipin antibodies after my last m/c. He has recommended I start clexane and aspirin when I have another pregnancy confirmed. As my first m/c was very early, I am wondering if I should take low dose aspirin while I am TTC to cover me for early pregnancy or just wait until I am pregnant. Has anyone had same experience? Very nervous about trying again!
