Sydney IVF at Orange or Westmead Fertility Centre

Hi all,

This is my first post.... so bear with me!(And thanks for reading). I have been TTC for 18 months and have now been referred to to start ICSI as hubby does not have strong swimmers at all!;) There is also some doubt about my right tube, hysterosalpingogram was inconclusive. I am 34 and hubby is 45 - this is our first time trying for a child for either of us.

So, we have 2 options, both involve a long drive from country NSW. Either Sydney IVF at Orange or Westmead Fertility Centre.

Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences with either of these places and is willing to give their opinions - good or bad.

Welcome to BB, I am fairly new myself, there is a link that says abbreviations, if I knew how I would put the link here, but just have a search? You will come across it....eventually? If I found it, you can certainly find it!
Regarding your IVF treatment, I can share my journey with you, with both clinics. When we found out we had to go through IVF, we first went with Westmead, they were nice, I wasnt unhappy with them, but I didnt love them either, 18 months later and 3 failed attempts, I had had enough and my DH and I switched to SIVF, and I could not be happier, I actually recieved my BFP with them for the first time, but unfortunatley I miscarried. There are a few things that both clinics do differently (in my experience anyway), Westmead use synarel (a nose spray) & puregon injections while SIVF use puregon & lurin injections with no spray. I prefered 2 have both injections instead of the spray, I actually hated it, it was horrible. My experience with Westmead was that I felt like a number, a process line, there was nothing personable about them and there was a bit of waiting around because they are so busy & SIVF were beautiful, very comforting very personable, I will not be going back to Westmead, (to be honest, I like a bit of hand holding and SIVF do that) having said that though, SIVF are MUCH more expensive than Westmead so it also depends on your financial status. I dont know though about Orange SIVF??? I go to Baulkham Hills SIVF & they are great.
Everyone has different experiences, all I can say is if you are not happy with the clinic you have chosen dont be afraid to change, this is a very trying, personal journey for both you & your DH, go with the one you feel most comfortable with.

if u wanna know about westmead a bit more theres a thread on westmead ( search it ) ive just had my 1st cycle of IVF and couldnt fault it( everyones different). check it out theres a few girls on there it might give u a better idea. Brooke

i to am going through westmead like brooke and could not fault them there price is amazing the staff are wonderful to us and we also travel 13 hrs every time we go .
we have also done 2 full ivf -icsi cycles with sivf newcastle and personally we will never go back we were treated just like a number the price was about $6000 difference and had no luk as well .
but yes it is very different for very one and i wish you all the luk with your choice in clinics hun

I have been going through Westmead Fertility Clinic too. It is a really busy clinic but I have found them to be thorough and very professional. The nurses are wonderful and are contactable via email or phone to answer any questions you have along the way. I haven't had any experience with other clinics but I have no hesitation in recommending Westmead. If cost is a consideration, I'd definitely be comparing clinics because Westmead is a lot cheaper than others.
Might be worth having a talk to the clinics you're interested in and asking about doing your blood tests and scans at a pathology place or clinic closer to home and just travelling for your egg pick up and embryo transfer.

Thanks everyone for getting back to me. I appreciate it very much. At this stage we are leaning towards SIVF at Orange, as its slight closer, but I think the important thing to remember is that if I am not happy I can move, thanks for making that point.

I hope your journey on the AC path is a short and successful one.

You are right you can always move if your first choice doesn't work out to be the best, just take note that to get new referals, appointments with a new FS (sometimes can take several months to get into some) and then into the a new IVF treatment can take a bit of time.
