Hey folks
My two-month old has really deep creases in her neck, they are a bit red and tend to get a lot of dead skin building up in them. I try to keep them clean but it's really hard to get at them, cause she tilts her head down really hard to stop me. I gave them a good go this morning when we were in the bath together, but when I tried to dry them she screamed blue murder! Understandable because they look really red and sore. Does anyone else have this problem and/ or any suggestions?
pixie, omg I was going to post the exact same thing. Jazz has the grossest neck, it doesnt matter how often i clean it it just gets so stinky!!!! I'd like to know what to do, they get so red, poor girl :(
Erin used to get this cause she was quite chubby and we lived in NT. I used to put cornstarch in her neck folds to keep them dry and if they were really red and sore i'd put lucas' paw paw ointment in there. We used to joke that there were lost tribes in her neck folds cause she was so chubby!!
The Bear has just suggested using this curash medicated powder we have so we will give that a go... have to wait for him to get home to help though cause she fights it so much!

I used to use curash too. I always thought I was the only one too LOL Erin's neck reeked!!
Juliette is the same, seems to be quite common with chubby bubbies! Hers seems to come & go but I'm dreading summer cos I suspect it will get worse with her sweating over summer. Cornstarch works really well though, I just have to keep it up every day.
my daughter got this too when she was a few months old and i used to put cornflour on it, kept it dry and it healed well.

Yep.. i think its a pretty common thing with babies. Both Jesse and Keira had/have it. Its the same with their hands. Smelly due to the dark warm and wet area. Not much you can really do until they start to sit up really. Milk, dribble and even sweat will just build up over the day.. all you can do is just wipe it with a wet cloth, or i use a baby wipe, as it leaves them smelling nice :)
DS had this too - it kept coming back. i used to wash it and dry it v well and then put some powder there (cornflour) which helped but if it gets red and shiny (as his did) it may be afungal and you would need to get an anti fungal cream - this happened in v hot weather - pharmacist can help. this did clear it up...
My DD is now 13 months but has had this up until about 2 months ago. She is very chubby and basically you can't do a lot because of course they dribble, vomit and get sweaty. KEep it clean and dry and thr chemist sugegsted to use savlon. If it is red/weeping or looks infected take her to docs.
I use Amolin Baby Cream in all DS's creases - its oil rich and forms a bit of moisture barrier. We haven't had a problem yet.
I found a wipe with a warm damp cloth twice a day helped to keep it clean and lucas paw paw ointment after a massage helped to keep Wills redneck under control. Can be tricky as we live in the tropics.
Cornstarch is a good idea.
Be sure to wash it well each day in the bath. You really need to get the washer in there and give it a good wipe. Also make sure you rinse well and don't leave soap/baby wash trapped in the skin folds.
Afterwards, dry it thoroughly, and use something that will absorb moisture, like cornstarch powder.
Consider trying a dribble bib, or a bib during feeding, as dribble/milk leaking down will get trapped in the skin folds and cause excoriation.
My DD had it when she was 3 months old and the paed told me to use cornstarch. It helped heaps. Also, I add a little cornstarch in her bath and apparently helped to take away the smell instead of using all those chemical products like J&J for babies. From then on, the red areas have gone and she doesn't smell stinky anymore. Also, make sure when you feed her, the milk doesn't dribble on her neck since milk turns sour quite quickly especially in the neck as skin is folded. HTH;)
yep, we can join the smelly neck-crease ranks as well. it appeared that DD had creases on creases IYKWIM. we would gently wipe it down with a bit of cooled chamomile tea and dry it off and whack on sudocream. it did the trick within the day. i think the sudocream is also a bit soothing on the red inflammation...ITH.
