We allowed Joshua to get an ear piercing done... he's 15. He paid for it (has a p/t job at Domino's) so we thought well it's not harming anyone and heaps better than drugs etc. A way to express himself.... anyway, now he wants ANOTHER one... this time either lip - which I can't say I am a fan of OR eyebrow, which I don't overly mind. What would you do? Would you allow it? I have to sign a consent form as he's under 16 so he can't do it without my consent anyway.
I would let him get the eyebrow done if you are happy for it - Much better to get it done properly. Just being nosy is he allowed to wear it at work??
Hmmm tough one but I would probably get him to wait until he is 16 to make sure that he really does want it and then he can go and get it himself without your consent.
Ask him what policy Dominos has for face piercing. Maybe they won't allow it and the problem will be solved.
I'm not a fan of face piercing either, DD is well pierced for a 16 yr old. She has a great one called in "industrial". Its two holes, one at the top of the ear and one about halfway down and a bar in between the two. I think it looks brilliant, much better than the lip.....oh I suppose eyebrows are ok but everyone seemed to have one at one stage.
HMM tough decission, but what a great parent you are for listen to your son and letting him express himself.
BUT if his work has a policy of having to take out piercing..let him know that a new piercing can close over with in an hour...you need to leave the bar in for atleast a month to give the site time to heal.

I have a hole in the side of my nose from an old piercing so I don't like it cos of that....but lips/tongue bother me because of the metal banging around on teeth. Im about to spend $6k on her mouth so its GUNNA LOOK PRETTY wether she like it or NOT :ROFL:
I let DD get her belly button done in the holidays, she asked me although she is 16 so didn't have to. I tend to think at least piercings aren't permanent like tatts so no harm done. I did say no to the nose though- I have heard the hole never closes, is that true?
OUCH 6K dont blame you. i had my tounge done for a month and i managed to chip 4 molars really bad so I took it out.
i took my chin bar out for 2 weeks and it didnt close..mind you Ive had mine done for 5 years and my nose..well you cant really see it cause of achne scaring lol

My nose piercing is hardly noticable anymore and has closed over. However, I took it out about 14 years ago! The extra holes in my ears have never fully closed over though.
I don't have a hole anymore from my belly piercing but I do have a scar still that looks nasty as my belly grows during pregnancy :( So although the piercing isn't necessarily permanent some of the side effects can be.
I wouldnt say domino's would have a issue with the piercing, he would be asked to cover it up with skin-coloured tape or bandaid, or use clear, plastic jewelery. Same goes for most public schools.
I would let him, more the eyebrow than the lip, as i personally think eyebrow piercings dont stand out as much as a lip piercing, and looks a bit nicer.
Word of warning with eyebrow piercings: My bro had one, and ripped it out while drying his hair with a towel. Not good lol.
Im a tad biased as I have both sides of my lip done but the reason I shy away from an eyebrow piercing is if it's done wrong they can hit a nerve and it can cause paralysis in that side of the face. I know it's unlikely but Im not prepared to risk it personally.
I have my tongue done as well but never had any problems with stuffing my teeth. Good alternative for stainless steel jewellry is the plastic stuff for all oral piercings. HTH
Maybe the eyebrow. They grow out sometimes anyway. My brother has had his grow out a couple times, so he stopped getting it re-done. I'd be worried about the lip one damaging his teeth.
I used to work for a fast food outlet (like 9 - 10 years ago now!) and we werent allowed any facial piercings. The only thing they were ok with was ears. They used to ask you to remove eyebrow and lip piercings before work.

What job does he want? Top of that career? I'm assuming here he wants more than "manager of local dominos maybe."
Job interview, bunch of men/women at the top of their game, going to be quite a bit older than him and his current friends and colleagues. Maybe a bit more conservative.
How will a piercing affect their decision to hire him?
I know it shouldn't, but it may do. If a mouth piercing means he has trouble speaking clearly, that can be a downside. If he wants to be a lawyer, will his clients feel happy about a facial piercing? A doctor? A teacher... probably OK if he wants the children to think he's "cool" but there's still the job interview.
I know people's attitudes are changing, but young'uns like us don't generally do the big-wig job interviews yet.
He had to work last night and had to put a bandaid over it... Lulu, it's the industrial piercing he got done. He was told by his boss that it was ok but would be better if he got clear so it didn't show up as much in case they had any inspections. I would assume the same would be said for facial. I don't like the lips etc because of teeth possibly getting damaged.
He does go to a public school and I asked him about that and he reckons they're ok with it and heaps of kids have things like industrials. I've told him though to be prepared to take it out at school if they do ask him to.

Maz, I don't think the industrial would close that quickly, however I didn't think about that with eyebrow, that's possible huh!
Ryn, you make some GREAT points. However, his desires as far as career at the moment go as far as a carpenter...lol. He has not much in the way of desire to really do anything which is going to require too much work or effort to get there on his part. It may change though and yes I will mention that to him.

If i was in your position i would maybe let him have an eyebrow piercing. DH agrees with this because he hates lip piercings. It'd be easy enough to cover up at work i would think if he used a small clear one.
It depends how long you've had it. With all piercings, they close up if you take the piercing out within a certain time frame, and they will all eventually heal completely so that they will never close up (or take decades to close up anyway, and leave a scar). When that happens depends on where the piercing is. I've had my nose pierced for 8 years and it closed up recently after I lost the ring and didn't replace it for a couple of months, I reopened the hole by stuffing a safety pin in it lol.:
I think it's great for teenagers to be allowed to express themselves through body art, I don't know that I would go so far as a tattoo for a teenager (which is illegal even with parental consent, in WA anyway) but piercings are good and they pretty much always close up once you take the jewellery out.

Jed has his tongue and eyebrow done....he was working on the tools (builder) and went for a 'bigwig' job interview and got it straight away.
Hmm and guess what the job was?
A drafts man at a big building company. He also does sales, were he see's customers on a regular basis and has conferences with suppliers and his boss has never complained about his piercings...maybe made a comment or 2 that I must be happy with them ;) but never complained.
He's in charge of the company when his bosses (yes there's 2 of them) have holidays and leave. So having his piercings have never effected them.
