Getting tubes tide when having CS?

I keep changing my mind about wether I want to attempt a VBAC or have a Scheduled CS. I have lots of reasons to go in both directions so every day my opinion on the subject changes.

If you book in to have a CS can I elect to have your tubes tide at the same time? I am thinking that this might be something I should add to my pro CS check list. I have a pro CS and pro VBAC checklist hoping that one will be a clear winner by the time I have to make the decision but at the moment they are neck and neck.

Any advice would be great.

I havent had a c/s, but when i did have #3 i remember her being 3 days old and the dr was sitting down on my bed going thru contraception etc etc. I asked about getting my tubes tied and he laughed and said my hormones are all over the place, and baby is just 3 days old, he suggested i give it at least 6 months - i got the impression it was the mental side of it, rather than the physical.
Im glad i didnt get it done then actually......maybe thats why he tried to persuade me to wait.....coz he knew woman can and usually do change their mind. I dont know. Sorry, havent been much help.....

I asked my OB about this JIC I was to need an C/sect I'd request getting that done too, and he said he doesn't like to do them as they have a higher failure rate. Something to do with everything down there being larger than normal and the ends of the tubes finding eachother and rejoining.
I'm sure he said that the failure rate of tubal ligation done during a c/sect was about 1:100 but if done 6 months post birth it is 1:600.

When I finally get PG again (trying really hard) I know that our family will then be complete and don't want any more and DP is adamant that he only wants one more. I had Obstetric Cholestasis with my first pregnancy so I am unable to use chemical contraception. I don't like using condoms which is the method we have been using since my DS was born and just thought this might be the most logical way to deal with it. If I get OC again which is a 50% chance then I am thinking that I will have a CS because the birth experience I had last time was in a bed on my back with all these monitors on me all the time. That is not the experience I would like to have again. In saying that I also have reasons why I don't want a CS but they are another story. Maybe I should just get surrogate to bake this baby for me lol.

I was told that the success rate is lower if you have it done whilst having a c/s. I am getting my tubes done after baby is born - they have to wait 6 weeks and then it will just be day surgey. However they have got me to sign the consent for already so that if I have to have an emergency c/s they can do it at the same time. sounds a bit double dutch to me.
Personally, I would of prefered that they gave me a c/s and did my tubes at the same time so that I dont have to be in hospital twice (I dont want to have to express/bottle feed baby - really want to go breast) but they wont let me opt for a c/s cause I have already had 2 normal births.

Ineresting! Something else my OB said was that in my case if I was to need a c/sect it would most likely be in an emergency and in that instance there would be no chance of having that done then at all as there would be too much other stuff to be concerned about.

Oh dear!

I had mine done when I had my last c/s... I almost did it after number 3 but decided I just wasn't ready.. but have had it done now..

OT: Failure rate thing has me a little :o cus I am 3 days late with AF.. I settled down to a 25 day cycle but now well...... Do you know where I can find more info on that?

I have also been thinking about getting my tubes tied with my next baby. I have had 2 c/s both emergecy and a we would like 1 more baby and i have been contemplating getting my tubes done as i will opt for an elect c/s next baby (ewont be for at least another year yet) But i would prefer to have then done whilst already on the operating table rather than having to go back a 2nd time and getting cut open again or do they do it by key hole surgery?

Try not to freak in the meantime! I didn't share it to freak anyone out, it was just my OB's reason for not doing them during a c/sect.

Tweetsta I believe it is keyhole surgery that they would do it with.

I ended up taking a pg test yesterday and it was neg.. So I assume AF has jus decided to take a long break this month..

I am surprisingly relieved, I didn't want anymore but would love more kids if that makes sense.. I didn't really give it much thought till this week and when I thought I might be I kinda got a little excited and was worried how I would feel if the test came back neg.. But I am relieved. It would just be bad timing I am so tired from the sleepness nights as it is I don't think I could handle much else right now..

and to be honest having to tell people would make me feel embarrassed and irresponsible. I know it is a silly way to feel but thats how I would feel..

So for those thinking of getting your tubes tied be 100% sure this is what you want. I know it is was the right decision to make for my family and for myself but sometimes in the back of my mind I wonder whether I will want more on a few years time.. kwim??

I should also point out I have sme very mixed emotions this week. I am all over the place :lol:
