Disposable nappies for boys and are "seconds" ok?

hi all

a couple of questions

firstly any reccomendations for disposable nappies for boys....i'm still learning about all this so I am guessing that differnt nappies work for girls and boys (probably a really silly question)

secondly, i have been told about a place in ferntree gully that sells "Seconds" nappies.
I am not entirely clear on whats wrong with them but I am led to believe that it might be something as silly as the motif on the nappy being blurred etc.

does anyone have any experience here or advice? I was just thinking that if I can buy 100 seconds nappies for $10 it's gotta be better than 100 huggies for $45.....

The firsts at the place in Ferntree Gully are around $27/100 (depending on the size). We use them and find that they work well. The seconds are usually nappies without the tabs - and come with a bag of tabs that you attach yourself. They are around $15/100. It's called Nael Fran.

I would say you could save yourself a lot of trouble and buy 100 Mamia nappies at Aldi for $5-6 more. It could be more nappies for that price but I know the size Noah is in is 50 per pack at $16.99? I have been really happy with Mamia nappies but now Noah is in f/t cloth, I will use Mamia when I go away and when this little squirt is born for the first few weeks.

thanks for the advice ... do you find you get any leakage?
a few mums have sworn black and blue that anything other than huggies is sure to guarantee lots of washing......

I actually found I leaked with Huggies and never with Mamia but I have never tried Mamia newborn size because we only got our Aldi about 6 months ago. It doesnt hurt to try a pack of each to start with and see what your preference is. Just buy a small Huggies pack on special and a Mamia which is always $15-16.99 and see which works best for you. Huggies has recently changed something in their nappies and more people are finding they leak more so I am hesitant to get them for this one myself. The only downside to Mamia is they are not gender sorted so at one stage your boy might be in pink accented nappies and a girl in blue accented nappies :lol: a small price to pay for good quality cheap nappies in my mind :lol:

I found huggies to be a bit too brief up the back end and ended up giving my boy a wedgie, which led to leaks! If yours in on the broad side like mine then they will possibly give you the same issue.

I was always happy enough with snugglers and have heard good things about aldi ones. Haven't used them though.

if you're looking to save $$$$ may I suggest cloth nappies? They'll last the life of the need for nappies.

Also in Tecoma there's the "Nappy Lady" who has really good deals if you do decide to to sposies. Previously known as dash-X - worth a google for her product list.

Also with us, we found huggies fine for the first 6 months but then his body shape changed and it ended up a struggle to find a sposie that wouldn't leak - so it really is trial and error.

We've always had leaks with huggies, with both girls. Obviously some people love them, but I do think it depends on your bubs hips.

We found the Aldi ones to be fantastic, they last a lot longer when we've needed sposies. We are in full time cloth most of the time.

So many people have reccomended the Aldi ones I definately think I'll buy a pack just to try out :)

I have bought the seconds nappies from Naelfran for both my boys and they are fantastic! I can buy a bag of 100 for DS2 for $15! The premium ones are a bit better because they have an extra leak guard, but the standard ones are fine for daytime use. I haven't had any leakage issues with them at all. A lot of the time I can't even tell what's wrong with them. There have been a couple of batches where one of the leak guards didn't turn out properly, but I just used these ones for daytime without any probs.

I do use Aldi nappies at night most of the time just in case and they are absolutely wonderful. I think they rival Huggies, they may even be better!

I think I will definately check out Nael Fran and also Aldi and see which ones work better or use a combo of the 2!!!!

I had the brilliant idea to start stocking up on nappies now but been warned against that so I guess I'll have to wait until feb for that shopping trip ...LOL

Dee - we also use Aldi nappies, as well as cloth, and they are really good. Never had any problem with leaks either. We originally used Huggies but I found he seemed to grow out of them about 1kg earlier than the package recommended. We then went onto the Coles brand ones which I loved - they were specifically for boys, and were nice and high in the back which suits my DS. But unless they are on special, they are about the same price as Huggies, so once we got an Aldi's down here, i decided to give them a go and for the price, definiately no complaints! :)
And the Aldi wipes are really good too! I think they are about $2.99 for a pack of 80, and come in a good package with a snap top opening, unlike some of the others which just have a little sticker thing for closing them and they dry up really quickly.

I used the Aldi newborn ones for my son. The only time we got leaks was when it was time to move up to the next size. They are bigger than the Huggies ones so we had leaks with those way earlier.

I've tried a number of different brands that were given to us and Aldi are the best of them all and IMHO the best - in value and quality. We are now using the crawler ones and have not had any issues with leakage - even if he's in one for 12 hours overnight. Most other brands will leak overnight.

My DF used seconds for his daughter and said they were good but you did have to chuck a few out which meant that in the end they would've cost similar to what we are now paying for the Mamia ones.

I've rarely had to chuck a dud nappy out from Naelfran, maybe they have changed their standards a bit since then? It definitely works out way cheaper than even Aldi, but Aldi are still sensational for their price.

Definitely don't go nuts buying nappies just yet. You may not like that particular type once bub is here and you'll be stuck with a whole stack you don't want to use! I was given a whole box of Huggies newborn nappies when DS2 was born, but he was too big for them! I ended up passing them on to someone else.

I'm another one who had lots of leaky Huggies nappies but hardly any leakage in the Aldi ones. In our case it wasn't wee that leaked unfortunately. While DD was BFed exclusively, she only had an "explosion" every 6 days or so. No nappy has been made to contain that snotty BF poo. But the Aldi ones are a bit wider and seemed to leak less. Huggies are so trim, they were completely useless. Let's just say, thye leaked through various layers of clothing, through the buckle holes in the car seat and onto the actual seat underneath. With Aldi ones, I only got a little leakage on the clothes.
Am currently switching to cloth for daytime, though.
