is it really that bad to re-gift?

Yup, like the title says...lol

I'm considering regifting some creams and lotions that i've never used aand are just sitting in my bathroom cupboard - I have heaps of them!!

My SIL's birthday is coming up soon and I thought that I could put them in a basket with some nice fluffy material on the bottom, some chocolates, bottle of wine etc.... so is it really bad to re-gift?

i wouldn't normally do it, but since I'm going back to work we've had to buy another car - plus both kids in daycare 3 days a week is expensive... and the creams are just sitting there..... ;)

Sooooo... should I do it??

i think there's nothing wrong with it LOL - so long as you do it right, and don't give it back to the person that gave it to you! I'm pretty hopeless remembering who gives what, so I'd no doubt get caught!

Altho with consumables like creams and things, you could let people assume you thought the creams were so lovely that you then got them for someone else. LOL.

i have a friend who has a heap of unopened pyrex from her wedding and I told her to regift it LOL.

It makes complete environmental and economic sense to me! If you don't want it and won't use it but someone else will then pass it on.

I think go for it. If they're sealed and still in date who would know that you didn't buy them specifically for her unless you said something. It could be a simple case of you love the items yourself and are recommending them to others in the form of a gift. Plus, you said your budget is a little tight at the moment, it solves two dilemmas at once; present solved and unused/unwanted items have a new home. By the sounds of how you plan on packaging the creams/lotions you will be putting effort into the display so it is bound to be appreciated.

Regifting is great but the key here is total discretion. If you act like it's worth what it's worth and not just some shoddy cast-off, and you're sure the person you're giving it to will love it in a manner that you never could, then regifting is the go! However if it is junk, then just don't!!

I don't think there's anything wrong with regifting as long as you don't do what my mum did. She gave a gift back to the original giver, ummmm, my sister PML.... she is losing her mind.

I also re use gift bags, sometimes wrapping paper, etc etc....

Xmas cards cut up and re made onto brown paper card with some sparkles can look awesome! and its fun :)

Hehehehehe I do it. Just make sure that you remember who gave it to you and don't give it back to them! Oh and DEFINATELY dont say "huh, what cream?" when they ask how you like it PMSL!

OK so im a HUGE regifter!!!! to the point where i have a special box of 'present' for those last minute birthdays or financially tight times. If we get given a double (like two of the one thing) i keep on and the other goes in the 'gift' box with a sticky note on it saying who it was from (both people if a double) and what occasion it was given for.

Like someone said i also reuse gifts bags, as soon as the gift is recieved i fold the gift bag neatly so it stays 'new' looking and will resuse wrapping paper if possible (it its creased etc i throw it) i also keep cards and reuse them to make new cards.

So yes re-gifting is fine and acceptable and a great budget saver if you do it properly. i used to just do it haphazardly but when i realise just how much i do it i got organised and did it properly. its also great having that box there for when birthdays come up for people im not that close to or dont know real well. i look in the box first for something suitable and only go shopping if i have nothing. I also do it with buying bargains on special to go in the box ( you know those candle sets at myer selling for $2 cuz they are the last ones!!! great last minute presents!)

so go ahead re-gfit and keep your eye out for really cheap 'anybody' type presents to put away for those last minute ones.

does it have to be fluffy material or do you have old wrapping paper you could crumple up like they do with cellophane???
