What age should kids learn to jump

My DS has just turned 2, and he still doesn't know how to jump up and down.
It seems that all the other kids in mothers group know how to jump, and DS really doesn't seem to know how.
Shoild he be able to by now?
I already have a heap of anxieties at the moment, as we had something tragic happen a couple of weeks ago, and this is another anxiety that I cant get out of my head.(there is another thread I posted yesterday about DS social behaviour)
Has anyone else's toddler learnt to jump later than 2??

My friend's little girl didn't learn to jump until she was about 2 and a half....

In the year between 2-3....

How your child moves (your child's gross motor skill development):

Your child will learn to run without tripping too often.
Your child will also learn to jump on both feet.
Your child will learn to walk up and down stairs independently.
Your child will be able to balance her weight on one foot for a few seconds.

I don't think its anything to be too concerned over....TBH I think its a good thing that he doesn't know how to jump....no jumping on beds/couches/out of trees etc. Each child learns at a different rate, no doubt your DS is doing something that some other 2yo's aren't doing yet.

Meg honey you have nothing to worry about. If your worried honey Ive seen those little kids tranpolines at target on sale for $70..im sure Master J would be jumping in now time.

My DS has just turned 2 and can't jump yet. I was a bit concerned myself and asked our Gymbaroo leader - all the other kids seemed to be brilliant at jumping and some of them were younger than DS. DS tries to jump but it's kind of a hippity-hop skip thing!

Anyway, she said that kids generally learn to jump between the ages of 2 and 2 & a half. She went on to tell me that she had a little boy in one of her groups that was the son of an AFL player and he still wasn't jumping and was about to turn 3...much to the dismay of his Dad (and therefore, his mum as well!) They bought him a little mini-trampoline to encourage him and he was jumping just before his birthday.

I do agree with the others that he will jump when he is ready, and you don't have to worry about it. Maybe you could let him play with a ball ... let him kick the ball. I think jumping has to do with balance, so if he manage to learn to balance on one leg (while kicking with the other) he might get the hang of jumping. Also take his hands and jump with him, even if he does not get his feet off the ground ... make is seems like HEAPS of fun. That could also encourage him. I would also start off on carpet/a bed. Just in case he falls, he might get a fright if he falls to hard.

I just want to add ... DD is a jumper .. she is 20 months ... let him stay solid on the floor as long as you can. Along with jumping comes falling harder!!!

She started by jumping on the bed and on daddy IN bed (something I'm sure I'll regret when she is older) Then she discoverd my fitball. She will bring it to me, I'll hold it between my legs and let her jump on it while I'm holing her hands ... She LOVES it. She can even jump three jumps and then land on her bottom. We also bought her a mini-trampoline that she just can't get enough of ... it's not really a fun toy for a mother, because MAN she goes totally feral and all I see is broken bones and bleeding noses (non for real so far ;) )

My little one is almost 2 and not yet walking independently. I don't think you have too much to worry about. He will get jumping in his own time.

my dd has learnt to jump, she is 18 months... but i think it had a lot to do with us getting a trampoline!! she loves it. i wouldn't worry too much (i know its hard, i would be the same)...

No jumping here. His little friend only 6 weeks older is a great jumper, but nup, only bouncing here. He'll get it one day.

My DS turned 2 in early September and has only recently started jumping...I'd say in the last month. I know a few of his mates the same age were already jumping but not all of them... I think that, like everything with kids, they all develop differently. :)
