Boys!

Hi there,
We don't know what we're having, but I have a feeling it's a boy (never had that feeling when pregnant with my girls) and Im starting to panic! I have only experience with m ygirls obviously, and would like to hear from those of you with sons and maybe daughters too,and how they're different and if one is more difficult. I know it's hard to generalise, I'd just like to hear people's experiences. My DH points out that our girls are EXTREMELY active, and he thinks it's unlikely it could be anymore hectic around here!! That's why Im getting nervous!! I think it could be!

PS I guess also, I always really wanted only girls, so I want to be told how great a boy will be!!?

I have a DS after 2 DDs and whilst it has been a shock to the system I love it!! At first I felt like I'd never had a baby before cause I was ringing friends saying "where do I wipe?" "where does the bum cream go?" LOL
It is very different having a boy cause they are just different to girls and its interesting to see the inate differences, Riley plays so differently to his sisters, he is more active and just uses the same toys in a completely different way.
I would have been happy to have 3 girls but I am so glad I got to experience having a boy, I wouldn't swap him for the world.

A boy, like a girl, is nothing but joy. I only have a son but I have looked after my friends DD who is the same age and truthfully I found it to be pretty much the same. With the exception of boy bits and girls bits. Try not to stress to much about the nitty gritty, it usually sorts it's self out in the end. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and best wishes for a wonderful birth.

I felt the same as you when I was pg with DS.
The only difference so far are the bits. (Took about 3 weeks for me to get the hang of nappy changing! I was terrified of hurting him & touching him!!)
I've actually heard from alot of people that boys are like girls, without the drama! I hope so (I also hope he's not nearly as active or loud!)

Thanks guys!! I think it is the physical part mainly freaking me out, being so used to girls!! Also the decision of circumcision is now one we potentially have to make ( I don't think we will have it done), but it's just different thoughts! Because I feel so sure it is a boy, it's just starting to be on my mind alot and I hope I can be a good mum to a boy!! I said to DH he'll hopefully enjoy dance lessons and barbie's!! Just kidding!! (however, if that's what he likes that too is fine)!! Thanks again for the replies xo

I know exactly where you are coming from...i think if i were to have another i would be asking the same question. OUr home is very pink and very fairy like...i dunno how a little boy would fit in. I think your in a win win situation. A little girl would be lovely for your other daughters to bond with, cuddle, share their belonging. Whilst a boy will be like its your firstborn, so new and different.....good luck!

Buying blue is fun too! It's wierd, but I'm worried about his hair!
Should I cut it or grow it? (I'm pretty sure I'm gonna leave it for a while).
Then there are things like cars & trucks etc you can buy. Sure he'll play with the girls stuff too, but I can't wait to have a rough & tumble boy when he's walking. My girls are pretty feral, but I dunno. There's just something about him. I guess as mbear said, its like your first born again.
Oh & when you realise how fast they find their bits you won't know what to do with yourself! (It doesn't take long!!!!)

I always thought my first baby would be a girl, don't know why but we had a name picked out & everything, then when we had the u/s it was definitely a boy there was no questioning those boy bits. I have to admit I shed a tear & my DP was a little disapointed for just that first moment. Then we started to think of boys names & how he would follow his daddy around & be a fisherman, handyman etc... & the excitement grows. Now 7 mnths later & I wouldn't swap him for a girl for anything.
About the nappy changes I find a toy to distract him helps, you don't pull the skin back or anything just move it about to clean the poo off etc... someone who has girls said there are no flaps for the poo to hide in so it can be easier than a girl in that respect ;)
I can't tell you much else about the difference oh one more thing there doesn't seem to be as many boys clothes as girls but you can always find something cute.

All I wanted was 4 girls. I am on my way to having my 2nd boy and no girl in sight. The moment Noah was in my arms I knew I wouldn't have it any other way. There is something about the bond between mother and son that is so special, I would never trade it to have a girl. I still sort of want a girl now, but I think I would be in my element surrounded by my beautiful boys and can't really imagine what it would be like to have a girl.

My boy is so much more relaxed than my girl. I find girls have more tantys and boys accept things more. They are so different. My girl is a girly girl and my boy is very much a boy. He loves dirt and being messy and loves trucks and trains and construction. My girl is prissy and doesn'tlike playing rough. They each have their pros and cons and they are both unique in their own way. I love them both to bits and wouldn't change it for the world.

My DH says the same thing Rach! He has conversations at work with other dads about how it is so much easier lol.

For me, when we found out we were having a little boy, I was a little disappointed. I had imagined being surrounded by pink.
But bjrose is right, it is so much fun buying blue stuff, and I got DS this little hat a few weeks ago from target that is kind of the army camo and it is sooo cute!
Once I held him, all my worries just went away.

I can't wait to teach him how to cook and clean! Hope his future wife appreciates it ;)

Are you going to find out or have a surprise? (I couldn't see if you mentioned it anywhere sorry)

You sound like you will be an awesome MIL Nic!

I LOVE to shop for clothes, so I find having a little boy quite a challenge that I enjoy. To find clothes that are brightly coloured and fun is difficult in the sea of navy blue.

PS - are all boys rough? I see some boys and I don't want DS to be rough like that, any indicators from mums of older boys?

nope not all rough Jack is rough and tumble with my hubby but with his friends he is the gentlelest of the lot this includes girls, my mums group friends have all said they loving play dates with Jack as he is a gentle soul

No we're not finding out , but thank you all for your thoughts! It is now not so scary and Im sure if it's a boy I will be over the moon!! Either way I will be happy! I can't wait to buy long boardies if its a boy!!! (I am forever buying friends with boys long boardies, they are so cute)! And I like the sound of the hat!
The hair thing will also be an issue, DH joked that if it's a boy we wouldn't have to grow it, and I was like "well lets wait and see, it might suit him". I think there will be more arguments if it's a boy as DH and I obviously have very different ideas!!

I really had my heart set on having a girl, so when I found out we were having a boy, I had some serious adjusting to do! But, like everyone else has said, now I woulnd't trade him for the world and I love having a boy! Yes, he is still very young and I do sometimes fear what he will be like as a crazy toddler, but the idea doesn't scare me as much as it used to- because its not just some random loud child, its MY child and that makes all the difference.

One thing that really helped me was to remember that while there are stereotypes for boys and girls, they do not always hold true and in the end it comes down to what your individual child is like- there are rough tomboy girls and gentle sweet boys.

And my little guy loves me SO much- I love that I am his princess! :p

Oh my goodness I am in the opposite situation, about to have a DD and having no idea what to do with a girl!

Little boys are GORGEOUS. They love their mums SOOO much. I had no idea that anybody could love me as much as my DS does.

And he has a lovely sweet nature and loves to help me mop and vacuum! Yes, we have had a bitey stage and a head butting stage and he just loves rough and tumble games with Dad and gets angry when he doesn't get his own way...but he doesn't push and shove other kids...in fact, he is far more likely to give other kids a hug and kiss! (I actually worry about this sometimes, that he isn't more "rough"...but DH thinks this is a good thing, he doesn't want a "thug" for a son as he puts it, and I've been complimented on how good DS is socially...so I guess we're fine. Plus DS is very tall so unlikely he'll get picked on too much, he'll be able to stare them down LOL).

Just wait till they discover Thomas the Tank Engine...:rolleyes:

No problem with bright coloured clothes, my DS wears orange, red, green, yellow...I'm actually wondering if it is possible to dress a girl in anything other than pink!!!! It seems all the girl stuff is in pink and I think there is more variety in boys clothes...just goes to show how quickly you get used to having one or the other.
