Going to be induced 28th October - scared

Had my OB appt today and peanuts is now 2/5 engaged and have been told it could happen naturally this week but if it dosent im booked in too be induced on the 28th!
Im too go into the hospital at 8pm to have that gel put in, be monitored for a bit than go home and come back on the 29th at 0630am to have my waters broken and be put on some hormone iv - which i have forgotten what it is called. Hopefully later that night i should have my bub safetly in my arms!
As you can imagine im pretty scared about the whole thing!
Can anyone tell me what i can expect too happen and does any of it besides the labour hurt?

OMG hj, I can't believe that you are so close to finally having your bubba in your arms!

Hi! I was induced at 40w3d and it was fine. Waters were broken at 7am and she was out by midday. Just had gas, nothing else, peth shot was put in too late. The synto drip brought on my contractions hard and fast but I got through it fine and it was wonderful what we got at the end of it! Good luck with everything, I know you are scared but everything will be ok, I can't believe our DD is 9 months old...seems only yesterday she was born!!

I was induced with my daughters.The hormone your thinking of is pitocin.The contractions came quicker and my labour went faster, with DD2 I was 1 1/2 hours from when they broke my water. The IV hurt a bit but needles always do. My DD1 had an op a week ago and for her IV they used a numbing cream called Emla on her arm and hand 20 mins before her needle.She didnt feel a thing.The nurse said anyone could have it ,they just needed to ask. I asked her if it could be used for an Epidural and she said she wasnt sure but she couldnt see why not.She was supposed to get back to me but never did. Im definately having some this time round if I need an IV.
My waters being broken didnt hurt, it actually felt great, like a big balloon being deflated LOL.The pressure relief was fantastic.
Try not to be scared, easier said than done I know, but stay focused on the prize at the end and goodluck sweetie:D

nic - hahaha it is close isnt it - and boy does time fly - i just hope this last little part of it goes smoothly and i dont need too be induced - something has too go right!

queenbee - at last a story that dosent scare me and gives me some hope! could u still move around whilst on the drip? i want too be as active as i can throughout - otherwise lying on a bed the whole time i think is just going to make it worse!

kitten76 - im not much of a fan of needles - too be honest i have a phobia of them - funny considering i needed them for the first 6mths of this pregnancy! i have heard about emla and just thought that it was a gimmick and all in ones head - but now i just might get some - better too be safe than sorry - i think u can get it from chemist cant u?
I like the idea of a faster labour - but than i also like the idea of the pain slowly creeping up and not hitting u all at once - im also petrified of needing a c-section if things dont work out - i have read inducing can increase that risk!
Its a big relief however hearing that it dosent hurt to break ur waters! Phew - that bit was really scaring me!

HJ ,you can get it from the chemist but its pricey. If your having bubs in a public hospital they will give it to you free.
I stood up for as long as I could to let gravity do most of the work and only laid down to push.
This may sound weird but after their heads were out it felt good.Again the pressure released. then with another push they were born.
I really think that a labour plan is the way to go.When your in the throws of labour all rational thought goes out the window.If you write a plan now while your "sane" it will remind you when you need a boost of whats best for you and what you wanted for the birth of your child.:D

im going private - and unfortunally they give nothing away for free! hahaha - will see my gp he will prob have some - he always gives sample stuff etc...
I have done up a labour plan - and basically i want as natural as possible and too be as active as possible - hopefully i can have at least one of the 2! hehehe

I was induced with all 3 of my girls, and i have to say that all 3 were a positive experience for me. The first 2 labours lasted approx 6-8 hours, and the 3rd 4 hours. I just used the gas. I could have walked around if i'd wanted to, but i chose to stay flat on the bed. What can i say, i'm a lazy bones from way back lol.
I hope bubs comes naturally for you, but if you do have to be induced, know that it is still possible for it to be an empowering process for you.

i was partly induced for Aiden, and it was fine. I say partly, as, the ob put some tape thing in at about 9pm, and said he would be back 7.30am the next morning to break my waters, and insert the drip. Aiden must of been ready, and just needed the encouragement, as i went into labour at midnight, and Aiden was born at 7.44am.

I was terrified of getting the epidural needle as I am also very very scared of needles (especially the idea of it in the spine) but I didn't feel a thing! I was very very very surprised! I was induced but didn't have my waters broken so can't give you any insight into that, but my one tip is that if you can move around ask to sit in the shower. My DH couldn't get me out of there :) Worked for me almost as effectively as the epidural.

hj, yep i moved around with drip indeed, walked everywhere, it was fine. where are you having bubs? i too and from brisbane and had my DD at wesley private, good hossy that!

JaZmum - thank you for ur reply - im sooo glad i started this post - at long last im starting too feel a little bit more relaxed and positive about being induced if i need too be - i have read and heard sooo many horror stories its good too finally hear some good ones!
Still want things too happen by themselves tho - hahahaha

Debbie - i will be happy if that happens for me - but OB said its unlikely that my waters will break by themselves before the next morning when they break them! that is the part that is scaring me the most!

tutmae - im hoping i can move around - because i too have plans too spend alot of the time in the shower - i have heard it is really good! still if i can get thru the labour without that dreaded epidural needle i will be happy! hehehe

queenbee - im having bub at the Wesley!!!!! have been their a few times already throughout this pregnancy and have been treated soooo well - i can only imagine how good the real deal will be! who was ur OB?

Well today is offically Peanuts Due Date! so fingers crossed something happens in the next day or two!!!!

Bianca Jane was born naturally without no need to be induced at 1220 on the 28th October weighing 7 pounds 5 ounces, 48cm long, head circumference 33cm!
A very pleasent surprise since i dead set thought i was having a boy!!!
