anyone had a persistent corpus luteum cyst and trouble ovulating?

it's been fifteen weeks since it was first noted, at a dating scan in July for a 7-week gestation bub i m/c soon after. it hasn't reduced in size (44mm) haven't had a "proper" cycle since, and my GP is no help at all!!!

i've been tracking my cycle, it's all over the place, 39 days (after m/c in Feb) 33 days, 35 days, and the last one was 21 days, unheard of for me, i'm normally clockwork. no OV CM this cycle either, but we're trying anyway. no harm in trying!

any suggestions, comments, personal experiences? i'm getting antsy, my 44th b'day is next month!

Hi karan, I'm sorry no one has been able to answer your question so far. I'm not really sure of the answer myself, but I definitely think it is not normal and should be investigated further by a doctor. The corpus luteum is meant to shrink down in size after around 14 days if there is no pregnancy, or in the case of a pregnancy, it shrinks after the placenta takes over the hormone production at around 8-10 weeks gestation. The hcg produced by the baby is what stops the corpus luteum from shrinking after 14 days, so I would have assumed that after a miscarriage and the hcg level drops, the corpus luteum should shrink too.

Based on the fact that you have been ovulating and getting AF, your hcg level must be less than 5 and the corpus luteum should not still be big.

My suggestion would be to seek a second opinion if you are not having much luck getting information out of your current doctor. Everything might be fine, but I figure it's better to be safe than sorry.

conicidentally, i had it done on day 14 of my cycle.

- endometrium was "in the late proliferative phase"

- right ovary was "normal morphology, largest index size follicle 16mm"

- left ovary was "normal morphology, largest index size follicle 11mm"

- left ovarian cyst was "43 x 40 x 39mm, size basically unchanged, no echoes within" which i think means it hasn't had another bleed into it, as last time it had free-floating flecks.

- "no adenexal mass, no free fluid in the pelvis, no pain on pressure in the ovaries."

all good, right? i maybe even O'd, not sure because the CM was a bit changeable. may have to buy a thermometer!

next stop, blood tests on CD1 i guess, to check the hcg levels, and book another u/s in a month fromthe last to keep an eye on things. atm i'm having a homeopathic remedy for the cyst and associated problems but may ask about silica to move things along if nothing happens soon.

I'm glad you got your results and that things haven't gotten worse. It sounds promising that there have been no more bleeds into the cyst.

Good luck for your next scan and I hope that by that stage they will be able to tell you that the cyst has resolved :)
