Another reason for cloth

Hi,

I'm a recent convert to the world of MCN. I'm not 100% switched over yet, but I will once my stash is big enough. Just trying different things out atm.
The most common reasons for cloth are:
- they're better for the environment
- they're cheaper in the long run (if you don't get addicted)
- no chemicals against baby's skin

But does it sound really superficial if I say that on top of those, I also have discovered another reason to use cloth: they're so much more fun than disposables! (ok, not the cleaning part, but pretty much everything else is fun. and the cleaning part is a lot easier than i would have imagined)

Nope, not at all!

One of the many reasons that I love cloth is that up here in the tropics babies frequently wear nothing but a nappy (or nappy and singlet/tee-shirt), and I think disposables look absolutely awful. When he's wearing a particularly funky tee-shirt a cool nappy really complements the look.

I love these summer days - nappy + singlet = funky cool!

And i have always hated a disposable showing under a pretty dress...
Unfortunately, my cutest nappy has velcro (Greenkids Minky Zebra - so divine), so I do have to put something on over it to stop her from de-nappying herself constantly... lol

SS - believe it or not, the velcro phase will pass - DS used to pull off his velcro naps but doesn't now (unless they are manky)

Or just give her velcro sandals to play with ;)

Velcro only needs to be covered at sleep times here, where Riv will undo it because he's bored and it's there. It's safe otherwise. :D

But I agree, I hate to see a sposie peeking out the top of his pants, the only time I DON'T hate the sight of it, is if it's accompanied by an awful smell, and then that's only because I'm lazy and would rather not wash ANYTHING!

i found other reasons too - depression management and PND distraction.

• Troubleshooting how to make MCN work for my baby has been a wonderful distraction from other problems - the constant learning - interacting with people on MCN forums - has been good to keep my brain sharp, to keep learning things and interact with people
• Sorting out the MCN laundry has become a sort of mediation time
• putting beautiful colours and fabrics on my nb and as she grew, was so much nicer than just bland white. i believe in the therapeutic value of colour in our lives

The environmental, health and financial reasons were and still are our biggest motivators, but these other reasons still kick in.

One would think that pegging out the nappies is a hassle but TBH I find getting out in the fresh air first thing in the morning invigorating and motivates me to get the rest of the housework done. Also folding and putting them away doesn't take long at all either!

well, i don't have all that many yet, but i don't mind getting outside hanging them up. thank god for washing machines, though!!!
and about prepping them, i just take a basket and sit in front of the TV with DH in the evening, folding them. So it doesn't feel like work. that's how i fold all my washing.
But I can't say that it motivates me getting any other housework done... the place is an absolute pig sty!

PMSL, I must be pretty selfish then because being cute, fun etc is pretty much my only reason! Couldn't care less about the environmental factor LOL just kidding, that's an added bonus.
