Comfort Toy - how many backups?

Looks as though bubs has a favourite toy to help her sleep. She only needs it in bed, thankfully, and not anywhere else. I managed to find tha same toy online and bought 2 (they are less than $5 each). Thankfully I did as a day after they arrived she dropped one in a bucket of yucky water, normally it does not leave the bedroom but DH got her up that time.

So, it is great that I had the backups, but now I only have one. Would it be silly to buy more? Was the universe telling me something when I suddenly thought to buy back ups in the first place? What are the chances of her losing the remaining 2 or am I just worrying too much?

We had an incident with Zander's comfort toy the other day as well. Usually Periwinkle (the cat from Blues Clues) stays at home, but this time he went shopping with us & when we got to the car we realised he was gone. We traipsed back through the shops & luckily someone had found him & handed him into the photo counter at Big W. I thought then that maybe we should get a spare.

Charlie sleeps with an Elmo and I never thought to buy a back-up. I think a back-up is a great idea, but I don't know if I'd personally think to have more than one backup. Though at less than $5, I guess it's no real harm to get some more either!

Kane was given 2 of the same little pooh bear cuddles blankets as pressies, and sleeps with both at once, one on each side... :rolleyes:

But they never leave his cot. If he throws them out, when I get him up, he picks them up and throws them back into the cot!!! :lol: Too cute!!

Maybe you could start the habit of it never leaving the cot too?? Kane has had his two for almost 16 months, and never a lost one so far!! Just tell DH too!!

I never thought of a back up...lol. I know Joshua was glued to his teddy and there were issues when he needed washing. Oskar though doesn't have a toy, he has a flat terry nappy, so very easy to wash and give him a new one when it's needed :) I have 30 of them...pmsl

Just a suggestion with "back up teddies/comfies". If using two different ones, can I suggest alternating them, so they both have the same smell/wear so that bub can't tell the difference.

DS1 had a teddy, given to him by DH's cousin when we were first pg. It went everywhere (he still has it in his bedroom). Issues on washing, etc.

DS2 had a "blankie". I tried to introduce a back up blankie when his was in the wash, wouldn't have anything to do with it (exactly the same brand, and colour). we had issues if it was left behind anywhere, or when he wore the satin binding off it, although he still held it to sleep, I've had to sew it back together many times. maybe if we'd introduced the second one earlier, may have been easier.

Luckily Charlie is not fussy about Elmo - any Elmo will do! Lol! My MIL has one at her house, and he'll sleep with it too.

I have a backup elmo/cuddle blanket - all hell would break loose if we lost it lol! Good to have two for when one is being washed!

She seems to be ok with the new one, after a couple of nights it should start to smell right. Will need to sneak the 2nd one into bed as well so it gets the right smell as well. Still can't believe of all the places she had to drop it was the bucket :doh:

Was not 100% sure that she was attached to the toy, but after being up in the middle of the night with her and her midday nap being difficult, kind of proved it. DD1 has moving attachments to toys, so you never know which one she will be demanding, so this one toy thing is new to me. I do remember my mother talking about my bunny rug, she had to keep cutting pieces off it to take with us as I could not live without it.
