ds is 12 months old and people keep telling me (constantly :wall:) that i need to get his hair cut. we were just going to leave it for a while to get a bit longer, but apparantley he needs his first cut for his hair to thicken up properly? :dunno:is this true or can i leave it to grow???
No, how would what you do to the end of their hair affect what is happening at the roots?
As children get older their hair gets thicker and coarser regardless of cutting or lack thereof.
Imran has wonderful hair and he has only had one haircut in his life (other than his fringe- I do that myself)

I've never heard about that, my kids never had their first hair cut til they were about 3. I think it's really up to you whether you want to get their hair cut or not.

With my DD's I didnt cut eaither of there hair ( well been girls for ages ) DD2 still hasnt had one... But my point is DD1 has wonderful hair very think and lots of it and has had maybe one hair cut this been a small trim... Poor DD2 who hasnt yet had a cut has thin and almost cat like hair, as it mats all the time and is so fine it just falls out if you try to brush it or get mat out...
So I really dont think cutting your childs hair will change what God has given them...
DD1 has BHL hair and DD2 has mine simple as that....
Dont listen to them Rain. STOOPID Dp gave DS a number 2 and cut all his lovely blonde curls off and left him looking like a SOCCER HOOLIGAN.
I'll never forgive him, I even get upset when I see the photos.
Ahhh Chlo, the voice of reason. That's good to know! People are on to me about this as well, and it's got me mystified...I've got fine hair, dh's isn't that thick...where is ds going to get his thick hair from again? And I DID have a haircut when I was 2, I cut it myself and looked like a boy. Didn't make a difference.:

IMO the thing about the hair thickening is actually an eye trick ...
When you get the dead ends or stringy bits cut off - it LOOKS thicker because it is usually all one length etc ...
My DS had his first haircut at 6 months cos he had heaps, but DD poor darlin was 2.5 and it was just to get the wispy bits neatened so they stopped getting caught in her buttons and zippers etc!!
I was going to get Alister's done soon just because it's starting to look a bit straggly and would look tidier if it were trimmed (I'm a short back and sides girl LOL)
sophie has had about 5 hair cuts only becasue she was born with heaps and its needs trimming!!
i dont do it myself though!!
Pip's had one haircut cause the hair was in his eyes. He needs another cause he keeps getting his hair caught in his favourite bib snap.
I think this is one of those silly subjects where people should keep their opinions to themselves!! I mean really where do people get off telling you you should cut your childs hair & if my MIL mentions it one more time!!!! arrrggghhhh.
Last time I was home is was "oh Erin how many times has Charlie had his hair cut....ooh none, X has had hers cut twice now"(X = SIL child) well she looks like a boy so perhaps you should let it grow LOL sorry just letting off some steam.
I'm about to trim Charlies fringe so he can see but he has such yummy blonde curls & I'm not cutting them off til I'm ready...so I say do it when you want.
I truly believe that when people tell you to cut your child's hair they are jealous! That's my experience. I haven't cut DD's hair yet (she is nearly 3) and don't plan to. My MIL keeps going on about it and Im SURE it's because she cut her DD's hair and regrets it (her DD is now 11 and her hair is MIL's pride and joy). As for boys, if longer hair suits them, you are lucky and people will definitely be jealous. Wait until I have a boy and I don't cut it, MIL will SPEW!!!! :D
DS has had plenty of hair cuts to neaten it up. We used clippers all over for a while - was easy - and kinda cute :)
I think the people that think it's going to make it thicker are thinking of grass! DUH. Tell them to go mow their lawn if they want something to thicken up. I agree tho that tidying up the ends and making everything the same length does make it 'look' thicker.
I would delay cutting his hair until you're ready. Dh got quite antsy about our boys having "longer' hair, so we cut it before I was ready and it was so sad watching the little curls drop to the floor!
I have heard that cutting thickens it too (apparently with adults too). I'm not sure how that works, but to me that was even more reason not to cut it. To keep that beautiful soft hair for as long as possible!
I am not planning to cut DS hair til he is 3 (for cultural reasons) - and you know how much he has and how wild and curly!!! Ppl keep telling me he will look even more girly....
Anyway, I know HEAPS of boys who dont have a haircut til 3 (for the same reason) and they have normal hair when they are older!
HOnestly, is there no end to the areas that people feel a need to comment on!!???
i didn't believe this either, my hairdresser kept telling me to get my dd's hair cut... i thought 'yeah right what a myth'...
all i can say is i am SO GLAD i got it done a couple of months ago... her hair looked so much healthier, has grown in so much thicker and faster... within 3 weeks i got it cut again, purely because it had grown so fast...
i strongly believe it now, because i've got the evidence to prove it, but i know beforehand i honestly thought it was a myth... the way it was explained to me is the ends of the hair get wispy, and if left alone the wispiness will travel up the hair shaft towards the root, so the overall condition of the hair is not as good as if the ends of the hair are regularly trimmed...
RE: THICKER HAIR - the hair is thicker because you have gotten rid of the thin unhealthy dead wispy ends.. the longer the hair is uncut, the thinner and wispier and worse condition it gets...
GET IT TRIMMED!!
i promise you won't regret it.
My poor DD is 2 1/2 and has absolutely no need for a haircut yet. Plus, since it took her 18 mths to get anything truly discernible I'm not about to lose it! She also has cute blond curls, but not from the root, so I know once we cut them, there'll be no more. :(
Your child's appearance is your business. Do whatever you like! Honestly, if someone told YOU to cut your hair, would you listen to them?
