petroleum based products - argh

I just recently found out that a very popular paw paw ointment is in fact petroleum based.

I am, to say the least, very disappointed. I have tried to stay clear of such products for myself and now expecially, for DD. How on earth am I supposed to manage it when products are not labelled as petroleum based.

Luckily I have been directed to another brand of paw paw ointment to replace the one that is now 'black listed' in my house. Just in time too, DDs eczema was flaring up and has responded within 24 hours to this new brand.

It is impossible to make informed decisions without all of the information. I was so taken in by the product's popularity, that it is base on natural ingredients and that it did not have any indication of anything untoward on the packaging.

Wow, I'm thinking its the same brand that I'm using at the moment too - not happy! What is the brand that you are now using? I will be making the switch for sure!

I just moved across to a brand called "Pure Nutraceuticals" but a google search showed that there are a few different non-petroleum based ones on the market.

(google will also make clear which one/ones are petroleum based... ;))

I found mine in a chemist after a recommendation from a natropath - Thanks Nicole from the Belly Belly center! I have also seen it for sale online.

Its very cheeky to slip such nasty things into such a lovely product isn't it?!

You could also try moogoo.. fab stuff that!!!! ;)

i saw a new brand of paw paw ointment (in a black tube) in an organic baby shop today, it has IN BIG LETTERS "PETROLEUM FREE PRODUCT" or words to that effect.

Simmons pawpaw salve is also petroleum free.

It takes some searching doesn't it? even the health food shops sell some products with the things i'm trying to avoid (SLS, parabens, petroleum), you have to read the fine print for EVERYTHING.

i looked at the WHAT NOT baby sunscreen today, they tell you to check their website for full list of ingredients. (full list is not on product).

simmons is ok, lucas is bad, there is another one in a black tube thats even better!

How can they do that??? :o

That sounds like Pure Nutraceuticals, it is in a black tube. I haven't come across Simmons but will certainly keep an eye out for it now.

It is pretty sad isn't it, especially when the fine print doesn't even tell you. It is pretty poor really that we can't completely count on the fact that a product is in a health food shop and that we would have to resort to looking things up on a website. Still I guess, at least the information is available if you are looking for it. I just never would have thought to look. Lucas is such a popular brand.

I hear you, that is exactly how I feel.

The best bit is that the Pure Nutraceuticals is a much nicer product anyway in my opinion. It has calendula in it too.
So bonus;)!
