I have a ten month oldl ittle girl and had always wanted her to be a cloth bum baby. It's takne this long and I have loked into it before but it was all too hard.
This time I am changing her over.....so what is recomended?
I would like to start with the days first and then move into full time use.
She is not a very heavy wetter. How do I know if she is a narrow or wide crotch?
I would like to use organic/natural products if possible.
All feedback would be gretaly appreciated.

Loren is 11 months and I use Itti Bitt D'Lish, Greenkids pockets, and I have just got 2 BumGenius. I am waiting on a order of fleece covers too.
Loren is a medium size bub with rather chunky thighs.
I like the Itti's because they are slim fitting and not so bulky. They snap apart therefore they dry rather quickly on a nice sunny day. I get two wears out of the Itti cover because I use the insert provided and then I use a prefold for the next wear.
I like the Greenkid pocket because it is easy to put on and now that DD is older it is not too bulky for her. I have the bamboo inserts. These take ages to dry, but they are very absorbent. I use these inserts if it is going to be a while between changes. When Loren wears these her bottom is never wet. The pockets dry really quickly is again I stuff the pocket with a prefold whilst waiting for the bamboo insert to dry.
I have just started to use the new BumGenious. They are really easy to use but they take so long to dry and I can't re-use the cover. Needless to say I won't be getting anymore of these.

Yeah I agree! The hardest thing about getting started is choosing which ones to get. Deciding to use either fitteds and covers or AIO's is a big one. At 10 months I'd think you'd be fine with AIO's as the poos are a bit more solid but many still prefer to use fitteds and covers cos they like them.
I didn't have the confidence to buy any even though I was shown them IRL by a friend. I later saw them at the baby expo and then I went to visit theweewuns and then I was right and there was no stopping me ;) There has been a few that didn't work for us. C was a VERY chubby fella and some nappies gave him wedgies so I sold them and when we found the ones that worked I bought more both new and second hand to recoup a bit. I also bought a few patterns and fabric and made my own.
Where do you live? Perhaps one of the online stores is based close by to you or there is a chance of the local girls having a meetup which you can go along to. I'm not sure if the PBC expo run has finished now but MCN was represented fabulously this year.
I would say to only buy one or two of one type and take it from there so you're not stuck with a few that possibly don't suit. Get trial packs if they are offered as they are a great way to try with a bit of a discount.
If you are not against using second hand nappies go to buyforbaby dot com dot au and once you find a style you like you can buy up big on the new ones. B4B will have almost every brand preloved, so they are cheaper and then finding the ones that suit is cheaper then buying new ones that dont work IYKWIM.

I agree with Bek. I use Itti Bitti D'lish for my DD who is 5 months, she is also in Medium size and she too has chunky thighs. I use the snap in ones as Bek says you can then reuse the cover 2-3 times before washing, I usually use 2-3 covers a day (unless she poos on more) and just change inserts and air covers between use. I however have bought extra insert sets only so that I always have the snap in inserts that go with the nappy as I find that they work really well.
This is the only day nappy I use as I find that they work really well for my DD, they look great, feel great and fit great (nice and compact like a sposie).

So excited for you! Cloth is definately addictive. Like the ladies have said, you should try a few brands first.
Bekz, are you talking about the BumG All in ones or the pocket ones? I found the pocket BumG dry really quickly and I usually use the cover a few times before the stuffing is dry.
Here are what worked for my DD who is about 7.5kg (7mths, chubby thighs but thin waist and has eczema):
Bamboo baby beehinds with PUL - I use this at night and they work wonders on DD's red bum. I use the PUL because she cannot go anywhere near wool due to her eczema. Initially, didnt really like them beccause they needed an extra cover and DD is a wriggly baby
Happy Heiny OSFA - They are okay, but I found the velcro too bulky
Pocket change - they are okay too, value for money but leaked for DD so I only use this for a 2 hrs max
BumG pockets v3.0- My fav, they are OSFA, never leaked with DD and sometimes i use it over night with booster. The pockets dry quick too so I reuse them with stuffing.
BBH Magic all - They are okay, I found if you use them with the bamboo booster, they dont leak as much. They have a sale on atm for very very cheap and buy 3 get 4 free so it works out only $13.50 each nappy and it comes with a bamboo booster!!!
Itti bitti - firstly they leaked on DD and the ladies here convinced me to keep using them, so after a few washes they are GREAT!!! And they look good. ALthough once again wouldnt use them for more than 3 hrs.
Hope this helps but once again, its more trial and error.

With the Itti Bitti ones what type have you been using? I have justed looked at there sit and of course there a what seems like a thousand different types??
Get the trial pack. It comes with 2 itti bitti, one sewn in one and one snap in one
Sewn in one is the booster sewn in
snap in one u snap the boosters into the cover, ie everything comes off
Ahh its so hard when you are first starting out - so many options!!!!
The first thing I did was check out heaps of different types online - and then try to decide which type I would think worked for us. At the beginning, I was sure that I wanted to use pockets or AIO's. I didn't want to use fitted and covers - too much work yeah? Had to do it twice - and with a wriggly baby - what a PITA!!!!
So I got lots of different brands - as I didn't know what would suit DS - and it really is true - what works for some people on here, doesn't work for others. The ones that I didn't like - I sold, then brought more of the ones I did like.
Both my kids are slim waisted, slim hipped and no butts - and they have semi chubby thighs (I guess) - so this is what I use.
DS - widdlewuns (every day use, naps etc), itti bittis (both snap in and sew in - day use - will use for nap if I boost it with another booster which IB sell), Green Kids (brilliant pocket - use for naps and night times), Happy Heiny (day use at home and send to daycare if run out of others), Bum G pockets (day care) - just to name a few. I know there is more but I can't remember off the top of my head.
Then I changed my mind about the fitted/cover combo - and now use baby Beehinds bamboo with him during the day, during his naps, car rides etc because of the double protection I have with a cover.
DD - mostly fitted & covers. Its hard to get a solid seal when they are newborns - so the double protection of a fitted and cover against those poo explosions are the way to go. However, I have her in IB's too for during the day at home - and she has BumG's AIO's and Monkey Doodlez AIO's for day care.
I always offer to new people starting off (if I remember and have time to write it) that if you want to try something in particular, and if I have it, I'm quite happy to send you a few nappies to try out and see how they work, and what will work for your baby. And you haven't wasted any money that way.

I went stright for the 6 pack of bitti dlish (snap in one) when I bought mine and they worked great for me so I was lucky!
I agree with Pheonix though buy a trial pack to see what works for you, it you go into Itti Bittis website go into 'Trial and Bulk Packs' down the bottom they have a Bitti Dl'ish Trial Pack for $49.95, I also suggest to go into Accessories and buy a 'Bitti D'Lish Bamboo Snap on Mini Booster' for $3.50, just buy one to try with the snap in nappy that comes in the trial pack, that way you can see the benefit of the bamboo booster, I use these with all of DD's nappies, gives her an extra hour in her nappy, she can last 4 hours if needed.

I dont mind Pea Pods for at home.. but there is a divided opinion on these.. It seems they work well for some babies and not for others
When i started cloth.. i bought one of a couple of Differant brands to See what worked best for my child.. Before i found a fav and stocked up BIG TIME on it!
You see All bubs are differant built differant, Wee Less Wee more... You just need to give a few brands ago to find what works best for your child.
Phoen - I bought te BumG All in one. I was supposed to buy the other one though:(
Havent tried the All in ones (it was very tempting) Only have the pockets and they are great! My staple pocket nappies. The outer dries in no time!!
