Ooops!! I thought the great idea of letting DD watch The Wiggles on her mini DVD player while she eats was a short term solution. Now EVERY time we walk into the lounge she sees it, points, hyperventilates etc. until we put it on. Of course I could say no but she's really good at eating in front of it!!!! Anyway I will stop putting it on soon but just thought I'd warn you all!!!:doh:
well at least she is eating & the novelty will eventually ware off - hopefuly sooner rather than later
Not with tv/dvd's, it never seems to wear off :wall::
I made the same mistake with Playschool - it doesn't wear off!
what are people's thoughts on letting your little ones watch tv? my DD is 10 months old and she will watch play school in the afternoons
Hmm... we have Nick Jr on constantly during the day - it never goes off - but he doesn't watch it all the time - he will run off and play with his trucks or something. But its a great distraction when I am feeding DD too.
And he eats in front of it too - and because he's not a great eater - if they have something on there that shows kids eating - or Curious George has a banana or Boots from Dora has a banana - he will come and ASK for a banana and then eat it.... so I don't mind the tv being on if it will get my kid to eat something!!! :lol:
Mel, I am hoping that DD will let me feed #2 if I put playschool on with some food for her too. It wasn't my original plan but if it works I will be happy :)

Mel, maybe thats the answer to A's eating...tape any episode of dora with eating in it and play them when you want him to eat, LOL!!

Unfortunately they never get sick of watching TV whilst eating. DD 3 is such a slow eater when we have TV on so it gets turned off.
Queen - Both my girls have 2 sessions of TV most days. One is a DVD and the other is playschool. Personally TV has really helped and I often use it as a tool to extend their learning and developement.
I don't like TV to be on all the time so once their shows are over it gets turned off. Of course we have days where it is raining or someone is sick and TV is on for longer.
LOL yeah we get tantrums as well - I think he just likes the talking and music in the background :rolleyes::
And whilst it may be bad to have it on during the day - constantly - he goes to daycare 3 days a week - where they don't have tv - so he sees tv for 2 days during the week, if we aren't going to a park or something like that - and then we usually go out on a weekend, to a park, to family etc - so he doesn't sit down and watch tv constantly.. I just use it as a coping tool during the day by myself.. lol
My DS1 used to be obsessed by Hi-5. Hi-5 wore off, but it changed to Playschool, and now he's right into Disney channel and Cartoon Network.
We still have fads with dvds too. He likes the thought of choosing one and watching it, but he'll usually only watch half the turn it off and do something else.
lol ohhhhh Ava-Jayde is like this with Dora the explorer!!! She's obsessed, I tried to take her away once to change her nappy, she screamed the house down and started pinching me .... *sigh* now it's at the point where she will have her back to the tv, if im flicking through and she so much as hears a second of doras voice..
