Hi all

Hi Tan32 - Just wanted to let you know that I was diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance. My Gyno prescribed metformin for me, sent me to a dietician who put me on a low GI diet with exercise. By sticking pretty close to the diet (with occasional breakouts), and plenty of walking, I managed to lose 20kg. (still have a bit to lose and need to try to stick to my diet better)
I found going to the dietician kept me honest, although after quite a few months found he was just telling me the same information each time. We would look at what plans I had over the next month or two between visits eg. parties, and how they could be managed.
all the best
thanks Mollycat,
I was on Metformin but my gp wants me to stay off it till i finish breast feeding.
Hi there,
I was actually reading up lastnight on a company called Mass Attack. They specialise in women with PCOS etc and help them lose weight. Seems quite interesting...worth a look anyway.
Good Luck :)
i will try and look into that thanks Mummbear79
Mollycat, did you see a dietitian through your local Area Health Service/Community Health Centre or did you see a private dietitian? I have PCOS also and have been going to the gym 3 times a week but finding the weight a lot harder to budge.
tk1999 - i was referred to a private dietician by my gyno. I never went to a gym but spent a lot of time walking. I really need to lose more but am finding it really hard at the moment to make the time. I'm finding that I feel really tired, and I know that if I make the effort to walk, that will go an i'll have more energy, just need to make myself get up and go.
Thanks Mollycat, I will put dietitian's onto my list of things to consider to reverse the effects of PCOS.
I have PCOS and have lost around 30kg. I did Tony Ferguson and continued on with my own healthy eating (similar to TF but I have a bowl of pasta and sandwich everynow and then!) I have tried so many different diets, Jenny Craig I actually put weight on (seemed every meal consisted of pasta, rice etc). I couldn't recommend TF enough for PCOS people.
Hi Mtizy, I was on TF in 2006 and did really well on it - I lost about 10kg all up but put most of it back on since then, I find TF great and do really well whilst on it but I am not sure about being on it whilst TTC and it can also be a bit pricey especially as I am a part time uni student... but it may be the kick start that I need to shift this weight!!
Hi tk1999, I would agree, I have put about 5kg back on since I stopped TF, but that is over probably 18months, so I am not fussed with that. I have read that people do TF while TTC and some fall pregnant, but I personally wouldn't, or if I was doing TF and I did fall preg I would stop TF straight away. I don't care what anyone says, I have found that after a certain amount of time on TF I would crave red meat and dairy products, my nails would break and my hair was not its normal healthy self:rolleyes: I was told that the shakes contained enough dairy, but I think it is a case of each individual person knows there body sort of thing. It is great for a detox, but yes, expensive on any budget really.
Thanks Mitzy, I am still contemplating what I will do... my options at the moment are dietitian or TF as I know I cannot manage my food intake myself (ie eating healthy) as I have thought I was doing a good job at this but then everytime I get weighed at the gym it is an increase. I already have a supply of shakes from when I tried to start it up again earlier this year so I might just finish those off and then see how I go
Hi ladies , thanks for all your recommendations. I went and saw my GP and have now been placed on a care plan. I have just had another loadof blood tests done, i have a referall to a dietician and to an excerise person (cant remember what they are called).
I have had success previously on Weight Watchers and also with a dietician and the metformin, however now i have had my beautiful boy i am back up to my biggest weight. I did lose a fair bit of weight before falling pregnant, so i guess its back to the grindstone, just need to make the effort.
Good luck girls, I know what it is like. Such a hard process. It is almost like we smell fatty food and put weight on!
