Joey sling, slingalings and peanut shell...???

HI.
Another thread about slings... ;)

Me and dh both want carriers for this baby. We brought a cheaper pram so as to help have some $$ for slings and hopefully use them lots.
We purchased an Ergo based on the great reputation it has, and because both me and DH can wear it.

We like the look of the HAB, and dh was keen, but I have decided against it since baby is due in summer and Im sure DH (and baby) is going to get too hot wearing it.

DH is now saying the peanut shell looks good to him, but he hasnt looked around nor tried any on.

I have am interested in the look and price of the Slingalings (they have 3 for 2 offer on). So we can get one each at good price.
And today I saw the Joey sling and it looks good, but is $100...however I read a few comments on here saying how comfy it is.

So, any advise or suggestions. Perhaps I make one for me, and buy one for DH (he is 6ft and l -xl).
Mostly it will just be for quick short uses I suppose, the ergo can be used for bigger trips, but I think mostly DH is wanting something for baby to get in close and snuggle up with him around home etc.

Joey sling is so awkward....would not recommend this for comfort at all. But their designs are funky.

I use the Joey Sling and absolutely love it! A couple of my friends bought it to use and recommended it to me.
It is the most convenient and comfortable sling once you get the hang of it. So easy to put bubs in and small enough to
put in my bag.

I always get compliments when I'm out with bubs on how happy and comfy he loooks.

I tried one of the hugabubs but didn't like all the wrapping around especially for summer. Too bulky to carry around as well. Not as easy or quick like the joey pouch sling.

I've got a moby wrap (like a hug-a-bub) and a slingling sling. They are both great for different purposes. The wrap I love for longer carrying - like a hike. I find it very comfortable and cozy, for a newborn or an older baby. However, it is warm to wear, and takes a bit of time to put on and off. It's a bit of a pain to put on outside (like in a parking lot) 'cause the ends dangle on the ground while you tie it. The sling I like for shorter carrying - a quick trip to grab some groceries, a short walk up town, etc. It makes my back and shoulders sore to wear after a while, but for something quick and easy that leaves my hands free, it's great!
I looked at the comfy joey sling, and I think it's best for older kids - it's got a nice deep pocket for that purpose. The peanut shell and the slingling are roughly the same, I think. There's also the hotsling.
You might want to have a look at theslingdirectory online. (all one word, with dot com at the end. :)) They have reviews of hundreds of slings and pouches and wraps.

I have a baby bjorn synergy, a joey sling and a backpack style called deuter kangakid.

I like the baby bjorn synergy because it has a back support in it, but find it annoying to keep adjusting between me and DH.

So I got the joey sling for me, and I love it! More than I thought I would. I got it for for discreet breastfeeding and short trips - like the supermarket, or a mad dash in to the shops, but I have found myself using it more and more. I have even gone on walks with him in it as it is so much more comforting to him when he is grumpy or tired. And I have a bad back and I have not had any issues with it while using it. And of course yes, the funky design makes it all the easier to wear in public cos I didn't want a hippy look! And the reversible design means I can work out which colour is more suitable to me on the day :D And the other thing I like is that it is sized for me, and it is unadjustable. This means that I don't have to worry about anything slipping or giving way so as long as Jett is tucked in and the edges are up around him and he isn't going to topple out I can just get on with what I have to do.

The backpack we will start using once Jett can sit unassisted which he isn't quite at yet, but even then I think the joey sling will still be used by me as it is just so versatile!

I have a peanut sling that both myself and DH can use as we are roughly the same height and size. I havent used it for my baby yet but i have used it in the kangaroo and hip hold for my 4yo nephew and 6 month old friends baby on numerous occassions and found it to be extremely comfy.

It also just folds up and fits into your bag but it does have a padded edge which makes it a little more bulky. Initially i was going to get a bubzilla but couldnt find anywhere in my area who sells them to try one out.

Just wondering how you have gone with Byron in the peanut sling? I'm wanting to get a sling for Jacob who is 3 days younger than Byron, as he gets cranky all afternoon and wants to be held for hours.
I have a Baby bjorn and he hated it when we tried him in it 2 weeks ago, so looking for something more comforting and sleep-friendly.

Any other suggestions?

Hey Carole! If you want something that holds a new little one close and cozy and lets them sleep, then I'd try a wrap. I know it's summer time in Aus, (I'm in Canada, and it is VERY much wintertime here!) and so the idea of wrapping is not so appealing, but I believe there are some wraps out there made of really light breathable material that might be cooler for summertime use. The Sassy Wrap, by Rolz and Sassy might be one to look at. It's made of a gauzy type material.

I'd really like to try them on in-store so I can get a sense of what suits me and Jacob best.
