Anyone got a Baby Moe sling?

Hi,

I saw these in a shop yesterday and I have looked at their website and a few other review sites. Searching past forums in BB hasn't brought up anything.

Just wondering how owners of this sling find using it? I have read that having the weight all on one shoulder can be difficult after the first few months as the baby puts on weight?

I'd like a sling that can be used for short and long term (standing/walking) situations and the Baby Moe seemed to have good straps/clips etc and was adjustable between myself and DP etc.

What are your experiences with this type of sling? TIA.

If you do mean the bubba moe, I have one. It was really useful from 2-6 months. Earlier I found getting bub in to it difficult (I think I would have had that problem with any carrier), and after 6 months there was too much weight on one shoulder.
It's not a completely hands free sling - you will be using one hand to steady most of the time. The best thing about it is that it scrumples up and fits easily into a bag.

I think it really depends on the baby. DD absolutely hates the bubba moe now - but she was fine in it for the first couple of months. She goes better in upright things now - like an ergo. She has silent reflux so doesn't like the fact that you have to lie them down in it.

I did buy mine when DS was 14 months old to carry him around - and I think its brilliant for that. I dont' regret buying it because I can still carry him around in it now at 22 months.

Sorry - I do mean the "bubba" moe. Must have "babies" on my brain!! :lol:

TBH, if you are considering a single shouldered ring or buckle sling, an unpadded ring sling is a much better choice than a Bubba Moe - Bear Hug Baby are an Australian company that make great quality but inexpensive ring slings. Or google Maya Wrap, they make a great ring sling with a lightly padded shoulder. Or Ellaroo. Because of the heavy rail padding and buckle, a Bubba Moe (Babyrock is another similar style) is not as adjustable as a ring sling, the rails cannot be adjusted independently to the body (pouch). So it is harder to get bubs as snugly positioned, they tend to slump in the large pouch of the carrier and the top rail is not able to be tightened enough to prevent bubs from leaning. The heavy padding is bulky and makes it harder for bubs to sit in a correct position when upright (with knees higher than bum). They also tend to engulf newborns, and can't be tightened enough on a smaller mum so that a newborn in cradle position isn't swinging around near her waist (which will cause a lot of stress on the shoulders and back). Bubba Moes and the like do work wonderfully well for some people, but a carrier is only as good as its adjustability, and these types of carriers are not very flexible in that regard.

A ring sling is generally easy to breastfeed in, especially if your bub is happy to be carried in cradle position (some babies prefer being upright, especially reflux and windy bubs). It is also great for quickly popping on and off, so is brilliant for the shops and quick trips. It is not so great for long carries (even the most comfortable one shouldered carrier creates some uneven pressure on your back), and depending on the shoulder style, some find that there is some restriction of arm movement (especially with a gathered shoulder which cups over the top of the arm).

Mel - have you tried her in tummy to tummy position? Does the top rail tighten enough so that it can give head/neck support if she's upright in it. I used my Baby Rock with Euan from 6 weeks (he always hated being horizontal in a carrier), and the only problem was that I couldn't get the top rail tight enough. He leaned, I had to support him with my arm anyway, and I got a sore back.

Just 'cos it's a cute shot - here's Euan and I in Red Leo (3.6mtr Storchenwiege 'Leo' wrap), in a basic hip carry with a slip knot. Doesn't get much simpler than this :lol

Bubba Moe sling was good but my DD never really liked it. So we took it back and got refunded. She liked her baby carrier better.

I did find the Bubba Moe didn't really co-operate that well with adjustment as it is a buckle but it was ok. I'm sure there are better ones out there.
