When did your transverse baby turn??

Just wondering if any one has any ideas for me.

Background - this is my 3rd pregnancy / delivery and the second beyond the second trimester. DD was SB at 25w3d and an induction. DS was transverse most of the time and ended up breech and suspended by his head which was stuck between my ribs and anterior placenta. We tried to turn him without success and he was an emergency c-section after becoming distressed during an attempt at a vaginal breech. The stuck head was his main problem.

This little person likes transverse too :rolleyes: The difference is she is head hanging down around my left side / left hip at the moment and currently not stuck - although the placenta is mostly anterior this time too. The head has moved from under the ribs on the right to the left side in the past few days. We are seeing the OB on Thursday and if she is still breech / transverse we will look at turning her (ECV) at around 34 weeks to ensure she does not get stuck like DS.

So my question - with your second or subsequent child, when did they decide to turn around?? I know they often turn later but how much later???????

Michelle, aston was transverse/breech right up until I went into theatre. It was while I was having the spinal block that I felt him turn - my god it hurt! I was going arggggggggggghhh, and the anthetist (spelling?) said you shouldn't be able to feel that. and replied - its not you, its my tummy! promptly after that i felt very wet, my waters had broken. when they pulled him out he was head down. cheeky monkey!

Good luck with getting her to turn hun. I hope she behaves herself and does as mummy would like her too! I'm sorry I can't offer you any suggestions as I was booked in for a scheduled c-section. Can't believe how quickly this pregnancy has gone for you!

DD was transverse until early 30's then turned breech until about 34 wks and then was right way round but posterior until 2 hrs before birth.

I started seeing a chiro who specialised in pregnancy early in my pg as I have bad pelvic alignment issues however I was lucky that she attended a special workshop on assiting in breech and posterior presentations and I became her guniea pig. She was brilliant and I attest all ease of trasitions to her fabuloous work. I must admit the turing during labour was not pleasant nor were the stretched muslces and ligaments she had worked on the night before our induction but for an easy, quick and safe labour it was worth it

Thanks girls. I know I am probably hoping for too much for her to turn at this stage but we will be deliberately turning her early anyway in the hope she will get the hint - or at least not get stuck. And a trip to my chiropractor my not hurt either!!

Julian was breech or transverse nearly my whole pregnancy, he finally turned at about 35/36 weeks and stayed head down until birth, but was posterior up until hours before he was born. I did all the leaning forward so that bub would turn as well and it seemed to work.

Hopefully bub will get the idea and move into the right position soon.

My little boy was transverse for quite a while, he turned head down at 34 weeks.

Just as aside, 34 weeks is very early to have an ECV - baby is still very likely to just turn back at that point. Is there any chance of waiting a little bit longer?

Yep - 34 weeks is early for an ECV. There is a current multi-centre research project just completed in Canada looking at whether there are any complications / additional risk from turning them at 34 weeks as opposed to 38 weeks (looking at early labour / placental abruption / adverse outcomes etc). There doesn't seem to be any and while the risk of her turning back is there, it means the risk of her getting stuck and being unable to be turned is decreased. With DS he was well and truly stuck by his head at 38 weeks and there was no way he could be budged.

I guess I am not the usual and would rather try the turn early (and redo it if necessary) to give us every chance at the head down, uncomplicated birth rather than the head up birth that causes the medical staff anxiety. My OB isn't stressed by it but the others are until he arrives :rolleyes:

She is trying to turn but seems to be stuck on my hip at the moment. Fingers crossed she will work it out soon and then this will all just have been for the intellectual *what if* discussion.

My XMIL's #2 was transverse until 37 weeks when they did an ECV. He turned back transverse on the bus on the way home and she cried for a week (her #1 was an accidental homebirth and she was scared enough of hossie, never mind the possibility of a c-section). Anyway about 2 weeks later she felt him wriggling like mad in bed, stood up and her waters broke - he'd turned head-down and labour began immediately. 4 hour labour that time.
