I was wondering if anyone had been taking Stillnox and Lexapro during and for 2 weeks after conception? I am six weeks pregnant and terrified of the effects of a growing embro. I am in my early 40's and have 2 older children, with which in both pregnancies I did not even take a Panadol. Would appreciate any info regarding birth defects etc. Thanks.:wall:

Congrats on your pregnancy!
I am now just over 7 weeks and have been on lexapro for 6 months. I just had my first scan and everything is absolutely fine with bubs. I was also on Cipramil (which is very similar to lexapro) for my pregnancy with DD and she is a very happy healthy 5yo. My doctors have told me that it has no known side effects on the baby but can't promise this due to not enough research has been done.
Dr's can give you printouts of the reports and research that have been done. I've read them and found that the slight risk they can cause is outweighed by the massive risk to me and bubs if I came off the medication.
Have a read of the reports and try not to worry. Many women have had happy and successful pregnancys on the meds.

Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know of your experience with Lexapro. I do feel a bit better just knowing that it does work out ok for other people. I wasn't aware that doctors can print out the info on that matter (asked my doctor but he was very non specific either way) so I will talk with my doctor again. Congrats to yourself. :)

The baby doesn't share your blood supply until a couple of weeks post conception. They take awhile to implant and make arteries that join up with the Mum's blood supply. Until this time, the drugs that a Mum takes won't be directly going in to the baby.
Your doctors should definately provide you with information on your medications, and the possible effects during pregnancy. If your doctor doesn't know, they should find out or refer you to someone who does know.

Thank you soooo much for the information. My doctor has just said that there were no guarantees with the medication I had been taking, there was a chance of malformation, and read me the drug classification no's etc. I have been on Stillnox (which is the drug I'm more concerned about) for a couple of years but did stop immediatley after the night I thought I conceived, but then a week later started up again and then found out a week after that I was pregnant so have stopped since. I really do appreciate you taking the time to give me the info. I will definately ring the person you suggested.
