Polycystic Ovaries
I'm looking for some advice.
I've had some abdominal pain and my GP sent me for an ultrasound and an x-ray. Thank God the x-ray came back normal, but my ultrasound report says I have polycystic ovaries. I'm going back to the GP next week (yes I was naughty and read the report before my doctor hahaha), what sorts of things should I ask him?
I have always had irregular cycles, what sorts of things can I do to get my cycle on track?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Gabi,
I have PCOS too. Diet and exercise can help control it. Although Im in the healthy weight range and exercising hasn't helped me. Since coming off the pill in march, I had a 76 day cycle, then 60 days which the doc doesnt think I ovulated in either, then fell preg but was a blighted ovum and miscarried at 10 weeks. Ask the Doc about clomid. I was just about to start on it when I fell. It makes you ovulate (or thats the idea).
Good luck with your journey

most likely, given you have PCO, the docs will get you to have some BT's to check if you have PCOS - having polycystic appearing ovaries doesn't necessarily mean you have the full syndrome. you might find you're also sent for testing of your blood sugar levels and insulin levels through a 2 hour glucose tolerance test.
i personally wouldn't suggest any meds myself until you've had full investigation of what the problem is - GP's can't routinely prescribe clomid, and it may be that, if your hormones are hinky, you'll get referred to a gyno for help with meds to help you ovulate and regulate your cycles
FWIW - clomid doesn't work for everyone, so it migth involve further invasive procedures - but for some people, simply getting insulin resistance under control is enough for them to regulate the cycles themselves without further medical intervention. i would suggest that you look into low GI diet NOW - if you HAVE insulin resistance, it's a huge help

Thank you both for your advice.:)
I had wondered whether having PCO would mean I had PCOS, it's nice to know that it doesn't necessarily mean that I do.:) I have wondered, because I am in the ideal weight range for my height and I think I have a pretty good diet. But then when they report said my ovaries had many follicles, I immediately thought of my super weird cycles. Perhaps this is some explanation?
