I ony started using cloth on DS when he was 2 so have never had a newborn bum in cloth (wish I had looked into it sooner)
Anyway I have no idea about cloth bums for newborns/little babies

I used flat nappies for the first 3 weeks and then moved to the BBH...
Next time i will be using my OSFA pocket nappies from new born and as i will 'know' how the BBH work i would be more likely to use them early
HTH
With miss M - I think I started full time cloth when she was 2 weeks old ... and i used prefolds and a great cover. I also used newborn fitted nappies, various brands, kissaluvs fitted (which are GREAT).. umm... itti bittis... sized bumgenius... but I'm wary of using AIO's or something like that for newborn poop.. yukko.. best to have a fitted and cover (I'm not very good with flats, they are always so HUGE on DD - I use them on DS though)
Thanks girls, did you use terrytowel or flannel flats??
I used the really crappy things that were supplied in hossy - they sort of 'fell' into my bag, so used them a while. They are pretty useless thou and i use them as spew towels now, when we have #2 (one day) i wont be using them.
I cant recommend what to use, just what not to iykwim
I tried the flanno ones on her - they were sooo huge on her - so didn't bother trying the terry ones - I use those for DS though (I just used them for about a week cos he had horrid antibiotic poo!!)
But yeah, there are some basic fitted nappies that work well because they aren't huge in absorbency, which I found I didn't need a huge amount of - because I was changing her so often in the beginning.
Since about 9 weeks old I have been using all the other fitted nappies, like baby beehinds etc, and had her in her first green kids last night (then she promptly pooed in it so i had to find another night nappy for her!!)
Pocket nappies (eg. greenkids) aren't so great for newborns because they only layer one layer of defense against poo!! DS used to leak in these until he was 3-4 months old (he was a big baby - I've heard others say 6 months). Mainly the leaks were wee out the leg - they just didn't fit properly when he was small.
We used BBH bamboo & hemp fitted nappies from when he was about a month old. These were great & we still use them now. Easier than a flat nappy because there is no folding & they are really absorbant. They fitted really well (probably could have used them from day 1, but was just a bit scared to start!). They were a bit bulky to start though - we had to move up to the next size clothes.
Thanks so much girls
I have put together a little trial stash of some itti d'lish, bubblebubs,A blueberry pocket, a BBh minkey pocket and some abby gros. Will add some flats and some prefold to it too.
I used flanny flats and a ME Rikki cover for the first 2 weeks then was sick of it so moved onto fitteds and a cover or woolies.
I found Cute Tooshie BD WONDERFUL! Were so great on Ashton and the fit is great on a newbie.
Also found Bum Genius osfm great for the nb stage too!
Oh and bubblebubs! They fit the best on Ash though he used to wet through them pretty quick :(
