No p-rogress TTing but . . .

I've been trying very slowly and without any pressure TTing with DD#1 for the last two or three weeks. She knows when she is about to do a wee and poo but still won't do anything in the potty or toilet, but she comes and gets me straight away, goes to the nappy change cupboard etc.

I started with a potty but with DD#2 crawling around it was just a nightmare. Besides, DD#1 seemed to think it was much better as a bed for Iggle Piggle! So, now have a toilet seat, step etc. She LOVES going to the toilet, will take off a piece of toilet paper, wipe herself etc. We just can't get anything done.

The problem now is that she is taking off her clothes and her nappy the second she has done a wee. No problem most of the time but she is now doing it in bed as well so I go up to get her and she's stark naked, cold, dripping wet with wee and really distressed.

Have I caused this with TTing too soon? Should I stop trying or is it that she really is ready and we just need to get on with it properly? I really hope someone can help with this. I just don't know what I should be doing and I hate seeing her upset. I also hate washing bedding three times a day!

I'm not saying its not, but why do you say that?

showing a interest in the toilet doesnt nessecarily mean ready for TT..

My DD#2 has been sitting on toilet and wiping for months and still does we on it..

i doubt she knows when she needs to wee or poo but only knows that the feeling afterwards is something she finds uncomforatable..

a friends son hates to be in wet nappy but didnt TT til almost 3...



unfort all my my older two kids have gone through (still are going through) the whole stripping off and nuddie stage...

Hun, my first DS was flushing the toilet every time he did a wee or poo in his nappy from about 15 months or so, but every attempt at putting him in undies was a messy event until he was nearly 3. DS2 has been sitting on the toilet often since he was about 18 months, maybe earlier, as he copies his brother. But it's only been in the last 6 weeks or so that he has started to actually know what he's doing in terms of wee and poo in the toilet, and actually being able to tell that he needs to go before he does.

It sounds to me that your older DD is showing some signs, but I would just leave it at that for a while and wait until she is really understanding what is happening. There's plenty of time yet hun. And I think you'll know when she's ready.

When I said she knows when she is about to wee or poo I did really mean it. She knows when she's done something but she also knows before she is about to do something. If she is not wearing a nappy she comes to me BEFORE she does something. She will either take my hand and take me to the nappy change cupboard, or will just stand rigid on the spot and yell for me. It is only after I put a nappy on her that she does anything. She can hold it - whether "it" is a wee or a poo - for a few minutes.

Thanks MR. She is showing heaps of signs and she's a smart little thing so I wanted to give her the chance if she was ready, but was fully accepting that it may have been too early and that we'd give it all away again for a while. I just don't want to stop though if she is in fact ready, and the problem is that I haven't actually put enough time into it - its hard to be consistent when I'm also trying to deal with a 6 month old who is up on her feet already and is very demanding and like I said originally, have been doing the TTing very casually.

That was the problem I had with DS1 too Lulu. It's very hard to TT with a baby as well. I found that we finally got TT working last Christmas when DS had a couple of weeks off from day care and DH was home as well. It was much easier putting the time into it while neither of us was working. So maybe that's something else to consider. Also, the older she is when you do it, usually the quicker and easier it is too. GL!
