Head favouring one side.....

James favours one side when lying on his back. I move it to face the other side but when I move it to his right, his shoulders and whole body moves as well and he leaves it there for a bit and then it is back to the middle or the left side and it is starting to worry me a bit. He sleeps in a hammock and I will deliberately sleep him on the non-favorite side as much as I can but I think he turns in the night.

Is there someone I can see?? I have a MCHN appointment on the 12th -should I wait til then and get a referral or should I see someone sooner?

I'd take him to a paed chiro or osteo... they'll sort him out hon :hug:

Jacob has head tilt when held upright.
He does turn either way in his sleep to face each side.

I saw gp about 2 month ago and referal to a pead whom i saw about a month ago , she did xray to check nothing structural but felt it was a muscle tighness.

I was refered to a physio who i actually saw today who has shown me massage to do and also exercises, eg taking toys of play gym and hanging only on left side to encourage him to use that side more.

My mchn didnt think it was an issue but i am glad i got a ref as physio was annoyed hes nearly 5 months

we saw osteo for reflux and he didnt find anything with neck but that was a while ago may take him back

Oscar did the same thing hun. Plus he would only turn his head to one side it seemed.

I took him to a Chiro who specialises in babies and she did a few very soft minor adjustments to his back. She thinks it was out from the delivery :(

Give your MCHN a call hun... they're usually more than happy to help you over the phone. They can't advise you to take him to a Chiro or anything though... mine just said "Yes, it's something you could try".

I agree to take him to a Paed or Chiro just incase, however it is a develomental thing also, babies tend to favour the right side and they learn to turn to their left more as they develop and grow.

Do you mean he can't move it to the right? or he just prefers the left?

DS had a preference for the right - he would always move his head that way (and would turn it if I put his head facing the left) - but he was able to go left. I didn't get any treatments done - he just grew out of it.

Lachlan favoured the right side, infact it seems he favoured that side in the womb as his right ear didnt form properly, it has now started forming but has very little cartlidge in that ear.
My gp referred me to a pead, who just told me to try and encourage him to lay on the other side, it was easier said then done, but now he will turn his head the other way also. we just placed his toys on one side of him etc.

If you are concerned get a referall, its better to be safe and get it checked. and will give you piece of mind

He just prefers the right and if I gently get him to look to the left it seems like it might be hard for him to have it there?? He is lying on the floor now and had it to the left for a little bit but then it was straight back to the right. I will definately go and see someone just to check it out. What is the difference between an osteo and a chiro????

I highly recommend seeing a chiro. I can give you the number of a WONDERFUL paediatric chiro in Ringwood. I have taken both my boys to him and a number of my friends have too. He is so helpful and supportive. PM me if you'd like the details :)
