Grrrr! VBAC in waiting ** vent **
Just got back from 36 wk Ob appointment at hospital. Saw a different ob than the one I saw and liked last time. This one was nice enough but it felt like a useless appointment.
He said something along the lines of " so your going for a vaginal birth this time, yes, ok, well you can give it a go...we`ll get you to come in and have a ceaseraen one week after your due date... there is a 60 - 70 % chance of successful vaginal birth if you go into labour naturally before your due date....and if its after and if we break your waters there is less than 50% chance.... if you choose for us to break your waters you will maybe come in to here in the morning and if no progress is made by afternoon we will arrange for your cesear"
:wtf:
Why is it that each Ob can have such different opinions? He`s not the ob I dealt with last time, so I didnt go into discussing why they (he) would only give me 41 wks. I felt like his point of view was that it was much more likely that I would have another c.section - those percentages he gave seem rediculous. And I didnt have a c.section last time because I failed to dilate or anything like that, it was because my baby was permanantly lying horizontally rather than vertical - so my body should have avery good chance of birthing vaginally this time, since baby has been head down for months already. Effectivly this going to be a first labour, which may well take longer than 1 weeks over my due date to eventuate.
Why do they make it so difficult??!!
As long as all is going well for bubs, then I dont see why I shouldnt be able to wait till 42 weeks till we decided on an alternative.
I guess that was my first meeting with someone who could be in a posistion of dominance on my babies birthday, and I felt uneasy about how limited his view on 'giving it a go' was.
I think I have come out of that appointment feeling like I need to get over my hang ups about giving birth vaginally and start telling myself and my baby that he can come now. Any time in the next month is cool baby!
