My son is nearly 14months and I still boil his water for his drink. The dams are pretty low at the moment, so there might be more stuff in the water than normal. I don't mind doing it, so I am going to keep going.
i stopped around 10 months, figured when there crawling why bother! at 5 months i would be boiliing
I never gave the kids boiled wtaer..??? They had breast milk & then tap water!??
My CHN recommenced 12 months but said I didn't have to worry about boiling DS bottles after 8 months.
Hi all,not wanting to scare anyone but i boil all our tap water due to the fact that Giadia & Crytosparidium (bacteria`s found in our water) aren`t totally killed off by water treatments, and can be very harmful to little one`s if they pick up a tummy bug.I had a very bad case of Giadia bug last year & it took me four months for it to clear and never ending Antibiotcs, gives you very bad vomitting & diareah.Babies don`t have a good enough Immune system to be able to handle the bacterias either. Just wanted to share this.
I stopped using boiled water when ds was around 1.
I don't think I've boiled the water since DS was about 6 months? I figure he's drinking the bath wtaer anyway - so what's the point?
i stopped when DS was about 8 or so months. I boiled water for formula till he stopped having formula, but, just for drinking, yeah, about 8months. I did it gradually thou, incase tap water upset his belly, not sure if it would or not thou, just shandyed it for a while.
I stopped boiling DD#2's water a couple of months ago (she's almost 18months) as she kept stealing her big sister's sippy cup and sculling that :D(much to big sister's delight as DD#1 is a hard one to get to drink water) DD#1 didn't go onto tap water until she was a few months past 2yrs old!
Ah how things can change the more kidlets you have
We didnt ever do the boiled water thing for Claire. She just drinks tap water.
Hi,
I boil all our drinking water, don't trust what's in tap water. Better to be safe.
Regards,
Dianne
A nurse at the baby health centre recommended the age of 2 so I am still boiling the water and my DH is 19 months.
I used boiled water for formula and drinking until DD#1 was about 8 months, then I started giving her filter water to drink. Now depending on where we are she will have either filter or tap water to drink. She still gets boiled water for her nightly formula bottle because DD#2 is having boiled water in her formula so its there.
I agree with a pp - they put EVERYTHING in their mouths by this stage so why bother.
Giardia is awful Mummy of Many. Hope you're over it properly now. I got it in Bali and it still gives me grief every now and then.
I would never, ever give DD tap water at any age...the tap water in Adelaide is horrible! We buy spring water. Would it be ok to give her spring water to drink now at 9 months? She hasn't really been interested in water and wont take a sippy cup, but with summer coming I really need to get her used to both water and a sippy cup (though the cup is not as important). Especially coz she's starting to have solid feeds more than bottles.
we've never had issues with tap water & lived in bali for long periods without getting sick, I think we do have iron guts though... But I'm still Ok about giving tap water!
at 5 months i would be boiling all water in the bottle and for drinking on its own.
i would boil till about 12-14 months depending on where you get your water suply. you should even boil bottled water if you use it.
good luck
