Good Quality Umbrella Stroller?

Is that the right term - umbrella stroller? Basically I'm after a stroller that folds up and that I can carry one-handed so that DD and I can go on more tram/bus rides. She's too big for the Baby Bjorn but I'm thinking I can wheel her to the tram/bus stop and then when the tram/bus is due carry DD and folded-up stroller on.

We did buy a Steelcraft one which is great for being lightweight but the shade canopy broke within two seconds and it doesn't steer very well. I know that they're traditionally the cheapest type of stroller but are there any out there that are decent quality?

I have a Valco Titan one. It's nice and light and lays back, though not all the way. It also has a shoulder strap which could help your needs.
Cost about $150ish so not the cheapest one but I think the quality is worth it.

What Sam said LOL. I love it. I did get mine for $120, but apparently it was going up cause they brought a 'new' model out. But it will be well worth the $$.

There are a few decent ones out there, I would recommend looking at all the display models. Shake them side to side and if they are rickety then dont bother with that one. Also look at the wheels on each stroller, and make sure that when you are trying to steer them the front wheels are unlocked. I have a friend that didn't realise that her wheels were locked and had been quite frustrated with it for months, until I simply unlocked them and she was perplexed as to why she hadn't noticed!! Fold and unfold every single 1 you are looking at because you will need something that is REALLY easy to do 1 handed, but that DD won't figure out to fast.

I have a Quicksmart - there are 2 types and I got the slightly bigger model that weighs 6.5kg and folds up as hand luggage on a plane. It is more expensive (about $160) but it steers well and is easy to fold / unfold. The only problem is the lack of storage in the *basket* underneath - but I think I am just used to the huge storage in my regular pram. It also comes with its own carry bag and rain cover.

Ive had a Maclaren Quest now for 2 years and I love it its 5.5kgs and has 3 reclines but not all the way back but enough for my 5month old to sleep its great! its as good as new! nothing has gone wrong with it at all and is washable too.

same here, no complaints, bit more pricey than others on the market, but with some things, you get what you pay for. Defn worth every cent.

I have a MAclaran Vogue. It is heavier than the Quest but has bigger wheels.

i love it. It folds so easily and comes with a sleeping bag too.

If you are happy carrying your bubs have a look at the different carriers you can get - Pikkolo, mei tais, ergo, slings, wraps.

you may still need something/some way of holding your bub while you are folding the stroller at the stop. A sling would work well for that I think. Not sure I haven't used one. you could always hand bub to a stranger but in Melbourne I am not sure about the safety of this. I think I could fold my stroller one handed but would be tricky with a 9.5kg lump on my hip.

You can't go past te maclarens for quality - yes they cost a bit but you'll never have to replace them!

We're using the maclaren techno xt which does lay flat and is suitable for a newborn but has 5 (ithink) positions and is very lightweight, one handed folding and a handle! As your child is abit older and not needing to lie flat maybe a quest like the others would be better as they aren't as exxy.

Following this with interest, as I'm in the same situation. Can any of these strollers be folded up with one hand? I'm currently hauling DS around Melbourne in a sling, but it's not always practical since he's so heavy now.
Dont you just wish we had decent accessable trams and buses in this neck of the woods, though?? I don't drive, and I've been frustrated so many times by not being able to get my pram on the bus because of all the nonnas with their shopping carts!! I pity anyone in a wheelchair or otherwise disabled...
