SAHM's...what do you do through the day with your little one?

My DD is 11 months old. I am a SAHM. Just wondering what everyone does with their little one every day? My DP works shift work so the 2 days he works on day work, I try and do things with my DD but sometimes it is far too hot (summer in Qld is humid and yuk at times!). I put on a DVD once a day and she loves a particular Wiggles one. But I feel guilty sometimes putting it on to distract her so I can get things done.

Just curious to know what people do? I know going for a walk is one but like I said, sometimes it is so hot through the day at the moment.

We do 1 DVD per day too but they really are not that long so don't feel guilty doing it.

We often sit on the floor and play with the duplo, or play with cars on the car rug, or clean the kids rooms together (they quite like doing this surprisingly!). They quite like to get involved with tidying so when I feel like tidying (rarely) we tidy together.

We also get a few hours worth of nap so I dont usually have to entertain for too long and they stay pretty happy.

Hi :) Me and my ds spend a lot of time outside on the grass, reading books or playing. I try and keep the afternoon between arvo tea and dinner for some fun playtime with mummy- outside in the shade, or if it's rainy or cold or too hot I get out the blocks and balls inside and we play with them.
We've also got a inside tent and a crawl tunnel to play with, and a couple of beach balls. My mum babysat the other day and got out a sheet to play with- made tunnels under the furniture and what not.

In the morning I try to get stuff done. I will put on a dvd every now (so I fully understand your dvd guilt) and then but I seem to be in the kitchen most of the time and we have no tv in there. So to distract him, I'll give him Tupperware or platic spoons or pegs to play with.

In fact, he seems to prefer just playing with 'stuff' laying around the house to toys, ykwim? I've found he generally follows me around and no matter what room we're in he is happy to find something to play with.

We put on a DVD once a day too most days, and she will play while Play School is on in the mornings as well. The rest of the day the radio is on and she follows me around the house while I clean and tidy, she plays with crayons and we draw, we play with her teddies (she's into changing nappies and feeding!) we read books, play on the couch and bed, and she plays by herself for some of the time as well, and she enjoys that. By the time you add feeding and naps, plus me feeding James that's the day done!! :) Amazing how you can fill a day! We do go for walk most days as well. If we don't then I will take her to a play centre is she is particularly ratty and if it's not a mothers group day. Some days I feel guilty because I feel like I don't spend enough one on one time with her but am taking inspriation from the Fun with Toddlers thread! :)

I try to go out every day - otherwise we both get a bit "house-bound". We go for a walk, to the shops, to the library (have you tried story time at the library?), or to McDonalds (I don't let him eat the food - but he plays on the equipment & I have a coffee). A couple of times we have been to the play-centre. We often go to visit a neighbour with young kids, or to the park, to Mum's group.

Then for the time we are at home, we play with toys, read books, sing songs. He also plays independently while I get stuff done.

We made slime the other day & Zander loved it :D

Ezz- The library is awesome isn't it? Even if we miss storytime, it's still a great space to crawl around in. That's a good idea about Macca's playground too- I hadn't thought of that.

craft, cooking, walks, the park, play outside, read books, build with lego, play with cars, watch telly, sing songs, dance around like idiots... just act like a big kid :)

when its a hot day here, i take ds to the pool or to the beach, he loves going swimming :) at the beach you could build sandcastles together etc... (sorry, not sure if you live near the beach) or maybe you could get your dd into a little inflatable pool out in the shade of your yard.. babies love water... when i need to get my housework done i usually do it when he is asleep, but when i vaccum i put him in his high chair with something to snack on and a few toys and he is happy to watch me work.. lol
