New Born with bad wind

Good Afternoon All,

Little Bella is having issues with bad wind - we have been up most of the night the last few nights with her crying in pain and mum crying coz she cant help her!

I have the new born teats so she doesnt gussle down her bottle (nan 1 formula) and I burp her a few times during the bottle (90 mls) but we still get wind.

I have tried Infants friend and worked well for a while but not so much any more - I have just got some Infacol from the chemist so I guess Ill see how that goes.

My MCHN nurse said to give 5 mls of water form the kettle (warm) and that works on occation but I hate seeing her in pain.

Any secret hints or tips that you know about that have helped you??

I used infacol with my babies. I also used weak chamomile tea or boiled water as well.

DS did the same. I spent a lot of time holding him upright against my chest, with a hand on his lower back and one uder his shoulder blades to hold him firmly. For us the was the most comfy (for him) way to hold him, but they are all different.
You can also try baby massage, there are a few exercises too like gently doing bicycle motions with their legs whicl the are lying down, ot rubbing (clockwise) their tummy after a feed.
These were all suggested to me by my MCHN.

We found lying bub tummy-down on our tummies or chests worked better than most things. The crucial thing was to focus on deflating rather than settling - we could settle him, but then if the wind hadn't come out he would just wake up even unhappier a little while later.

We used to hold Natalie face down over one arm and rub her back.

Umm.. infacol is supposed to be from one month of age (sorry!)

You can try the brauers stuff - its REALLY good.

The only thing that worked for us was alternating their stomach calm and colic relief (then we went and got homeopathic drops instead).

Warm baths help too.

You can actually use Infacol from 3 days of age! I was told this by my MCHN when DS2 was 5 days old and suffering from terrible wind. It worked wonders for him, the MCHN said it can take up to 24 hours to start working, but we found it worked straight away.

The Brauers Colic Relief didn't work for him, but it did work for DS1 so I guess all babies are different!

You can use Brauers Colic Relief on a newborn. It did wonders for us. It goes down and the burps come straight up. You get it at the chemist. We also found that putting bub down on tummy helps get the wind up, but that was a bit later on.

Yep Mel, I think they just say at least 1 month to cover themselves, but it is definitely OK to take it earlier. I bet a lot of mums wish they new that!!

The Chemist said that I could give the infacol to her but only .1mm before each feed.

what about donnalix??? its safe to use , but never go over the dosage amount it says on the bottle ... !
