Sleeping Bags - 'Weaning' Off Them

DD is now 16 months old and I've used a sleeping bag since about 6 months. The reason I started using one was because she would get herself out of her bedding so I was afraid she'd wake up because she was too cold plus she's a real mover and would get her legs stuck between the cot rails.

But I'd kinda like to get rid of the sleeping bag. No compelling reason except it adds a bit of time and faff to getting her into bed because she's very wriggly and we sometimes need numerous attempts to get her into it plus she's worked out how to undo zips and I think she's not far off getting out of one on her own anyway.

BUT she won't stay under her bedclothes so I'm still concerned that she'll get cold and that her cot gymnastics will keep her awake without the sleeping bag.

What did you do?

DS1 wore a sleeping bag until he was just over 2, he stopped wearing it once he could keep the blankets on top of him. I don't have any tips on how to wean your DD off them because it was a bit of a non-event for us LOL!

While you still have her in one, is there something you can give her to distract her while you're putting it on? DS2 gets really wriggly too so I give him his toothbrush and it entertains him enough so that I can get his sleeping bag on without much fuss. As for working out how to undo the zip, she's very clever! You can buy sleeping bags that do up from the top so that the zip is down the bottom when it's on IYKWIM, I have one that I bought from Baby Bunting.

My DS is 2yr 3 mths, and i have just gone back to the sleeping bag, a lightweight one, as he is getting untucked in his bed, and then waking. Anyway that 18-36 month ones zip in the opposite direction so that they can't undo them so easily.
