Healthy Weight Gain
I went to my GP for a check up yesterday....
My starting weight at 5-6 weeks was 83kg
12 week check up i was 83.1kg
16 week check up yesterday i was 86.6kg
Total weight gain of 3.5kg's.... (all in the past 3 weeks too!) Is that a lot for this stage of my pregnancy?
I know that it being twins aswell wont make any difference at this stage either.
He didnt say much, other than to be sure i eat healthy and to exercise more, as a healthy me = a healthy bub.
It sort of went over my head at the time, but last night i started thinking - and wondering if thats normal weight gain or over and that I should be more cautious about my food intake from now on?
- I have been craving ALOT of carbs.... and each meal is packed with carbs which wont work well with no exercise. I use to walk the dogs daily and go the gym on occassion, but since being pregnant and my DH away a fair bit the extent of my exercise is driving to the park to play fetch with the dogs as my priorities seem to be work, rest and a clean house....

PMSL, I gained about 10kg in the first 20 weeks! (about 18kg all up)
It all depends on how much you weighed (and your BMI) at the start. I had a friend who lost weight during pregnancy, and ended up about 5kg LIGHTER than her pre-pregnancy weight (she was pretty overweight though...). I definately wouldn't restrict how much you eat, except for making sure you are eating a range of healthy food, and good sized portions. I also wouldn't overdo the exercise if you get back into it (it was the LAST thing on my mind, and the last thing I wanted to do as I was EXHAUSTED my whole pregnancy).

Hon
it takes alot of energy to bake twins!!!
Eat what you feel like- esp now. This is the time when the most amount of development occurs.
Plus as you get bigger- the food literally wont be able to get down- after all it has two bubbas to get around first and you may not be able to eat big amounts!
they say that you can gain 20+ kg with twins- so eat what your body needs. Some of twin mumma friends gained 30+ kg- it nearly all fell off after the birth ( 2 full term bubbas, 2 placentas, a hell lot of extra blood and fluid = 15+kg straight off)
With my twins i was soo sick that i actually weighed less the day i gave birth, than b4 i got pg- not good!
This time with a singleton i have put on 6kg - so pretty happy with that.
Remember that you are nearly half way there with twins (36 weeks = full term) so just keep doing what you are doing and REST REST REST
take care
