Wow - so easy when they're READY

OK, so we're toilet training this long weekend.. and it's been sooooo easy. And he's taking himself off to the toilet and everything! 1's and 2's! All I have to do is remind him now and then that he's in undies and that he needs to use the toilet.

We're using a star chart which has been fabulous.. and he's earnt a few milkyways so far! LOL. But I'm just so impressed with how he's doing so far. only 2 or so accidents, and they've been in the bathroom. And if daddy is on the toilet when he needs it :rolleyes: then he's gone in the shower LMAO.

we haven't ventured out without a nappy yet tho, nor slept without a nappy. Not sure when he's weeing, but he has a full nappy by the time I see him after a sleep, so we'll leave sleeping with a nappy for now!

But hooray for my little man! So proud :)

Couldn't agree more Liz.

The first time I attempted training him, I did 3 half days, and it drove me bonkers, coz the amount of wee this boy would produce was sooo frustrating. I had to take him to the loo every 15 mins or so, and he'd go both in the toilet, and inbetween! I couldn't believe it!

But now, he's just soo good. He knows exactly when he needs to go, and just trots off to the toilet and climbs up his seat. I was getting worried earlier coz he refused to go, I was like "you must need to go by now.. come and sit on the toilet" "no! me watching this!" so I told him that he wasn't to wee in his pants or on the carpet, he had to get to the toilet in time. Later on (quite a while later actually) he came up and said he'd wee'd, and whatya know.. he'd wee'd in the loo, dabbed with toilet paper (LMAO) and needed help flushing.

I know the advice I'll be giving parents... don't stress - just do it when they're ready. It's not worth the battle if they're not quite ready.

Oh wow thats so good Liz!!! See yep.. none of this takes weeks stuff.. do it when theyre ready and can understand and its done in a week! Well done to you and to Tallon!! :clap:

nelly - you just know LOL. He was running off and hiding to poo (for a long long time.. probably could have trained him for poos much earlier.. but wee's just weren't co-operating) and then he started telling me each time he wee'd. I must admit, my failed attempt at training before did heighten his awareness of the wee's too.. so it doesn't hurt to try now and then, just don't stress about 'making' them train just cos you picked that time IYKWIM.

Also, I was reading about signs of being ready, and one was that they start insisting they do things on their own, and he really stepped that up recently wanting to do everything like dressing himself and doing up his buttons and shoes and things. I also realised that a sticker chart would now work.. I could just tell he'd understand it now.. where as back in July or whenever I tried before, he wouldn't really have grasped that.

Plus I had to be ready too, and I finally got my head around not having the 'convenience' of nappies anymore, that we'd have to get him to go to the loo before we go anywhere, and I'd have to know where all the public toilets and things are. That really overwhelmed me before, so i think we were both ready this time :)

ETA: mind you, we're still only on day 3 LOL. Haven't gone out yet or anything, so we'll see how we go! At least with a little boy you can just stop on the side of the road and easily get him to go behind a bush or something heheh.
