Will baby get confused? Night time hammock and day time cot?

Just a thought.

Has anyone had their baby sleep in the baby hammock in their bedroom during the night and then during the day they can sleep in their big cot in their own bedroom (nursery)?

We want bub in our room at night especially for the first 3mths and see how that goes.... and we'll be using the hammock. But thought perhaps during the day we could try bub in the big cot in the nursery rather than having bub sleep in our bedroom during the day? the nursery outlooks our loungeroom so would be perfect for watching bub during the day and this saves us from moving the hammock out of our bedroom every morning into the babys room or loungeroom. (does that make sense?)

Would our baby possibly sleep well each day alternating between hammock and cot? Or is it hard to tell until we try it? If not, we are happy to keep bub just in the hammock only for day and night sleeps for first few months then make transition to big cot!

If it was me id try keep bub in 1 sleeping environment.

We had bub sleep in a bassinet in our room for the first few weeks. Now she sleeps in both that and her cot in her room. Reason being that our bedroom in a cooler part of the house and we don't have air con. When it's been hot of late she has day sleeps in our room.

She sleeps well in both places but if it starts becoming an issue then I'll put her in her cot all the time.

Ren I used the hammock for the first few weeks and it has been wonderful. About 3 weeks ago I put him in the cot for play time with the mobile on and to get him used to it and he fell asleep so I have been putting him in there for day sleeps and he loves it. Still sleeps 12 hours overnight in the hammock. See how you go but I would give it a few weeks first to settle bub in and then look at moving them. :)

We dont do exactly that with DD but she has most of her day sleeps out with us in the lounge room in her rocker. She sleeps at night in her cot. Has slept through the night since 4 weeks old and have never had an issue and shes a fantastic sleeper. Will sleep anywhere.. on the floor, rocker, your lap, pram etc. We did similar with DS and hes always been a great sleeper also.

With our three babies we always made sure they slept in a variety of places. From newborn they slept in the cradle beside my bed at the start of the night, then I'd lift them in with me to co-sleep when they needed that (and a feed)... We also had a big Emmaljunga pram with a basinette attachment (photo HERE) that was used for day sleeps alot. They also slept in their big cots and a port-a-cot that I had set up in the loungeroom. So that's about 5 places. I think because they had this variety from day 1 they got used to it. The best thing about it was that as they got a bit older and more aware of their surroundings they still maintained this flexibility. Great when you are staying overnight somewhere other than home.

Ashton sleeps in his cot for his day sleeps which he goes down awake for, and he sleeps in my bed at night, which he is normally fed to sleep for :)

So I think it will be fine :)

Byron is only 11 days old atm but of a night he sleeps in the bassinette in our room and during the day he sleeps in his own cot i the nursery or in the swing in the loungeroom or sometimes (like today) if he is unsettled i will breastfeed him laying down in our bed and we will both fall asleep there. Right now he doesnt have any issues about where he falls asleep, as long as he is comfortable.
Try it and do what works best for you guys.

we used both from the beginning, and mixed it up between day and night.
DS was always going to only have a few months in the hammock bcause he was so long, so I didn't want him to get used only to it, but it was great because I could move it from one room to the next.
He was still a little jaundice when we came home from hospital so I could move him in front of whichever window had the most sunlight coming through it.

Thanks everyone for your responses. It's great to get some ideas.

I think we'll start first few days with bub in hammock sleeping in our room and during the day move hammock with me wherever I am (loungeroom etc)so bub can stay in it and then after a few days see if bub will sleep in cot in the nursery during the day time.
Sounds to me like it depends on the baby also so we'll just test it and see how we go :D
