Throws up everytime he's put in the car seat???

Hi,

Our son is 7 months old and everytime we put him into the car seat he throws up. This has happened from the beginning. We still have him laying down as he's not quite 8kg and I would like to delay turning the seat around a little longer (as I'm lead to believe it is a safer thing to do). Everytime- whether he's just had a bf or not he seems to throw up. Even the other day I put him in the car early morning before he'd even had his 1st feed of the day (he's last feed was about 12hours beforehand) and he still threw up (it was just a little bit of watery stuff).

Obviously we now always put a bib on him when we go to put him in the car (as we've gone through many outfits because of this), but sometimes the bib ain't big enough.

Has anyone else experienced this same thing? Anyone know why this is happening and any suggestions on how to avoid it, or when it's likely to stop. Should I be a little more concerned (other then frustrated that he's messed up another outfit)?

has he ever had issues with reflux or anything like that and is he a bit of a 'chucky' baby even when not in the car seat? My youngest was like that from birth and as soon as I put him in his carseat he would throw up a bit. My reasoning for it was that when you put them in rear-facing, you have to bend them up a bit to get them in (for lack of a better description LOL) and when you do that you place a bit of upward pressure on the top of the stomach, forcing food up and out if the sphincter muscle at the top of the stomach is a little weak kwim? It stopped for us when we made the switch to AR (thickened) formula for his reflux, but not sure if you are BF or not. I don't know what else to suggest to stop it, especially if still does it even well after a feed.

Is he very excited or anxious to go places in the car? Could it be a mood thing? Maybe you just have a boy who really, really loves a car ride? :-)

i would lean towards reflux, or a weak flap ( cant think of teh technical or anatomically correct name) that sits between the stomach adn the eosophegous.
my brother had this as would basically throw up every time you layed him down or piut him in the car.

see your GP about it or your pead if your refferal is still valid which is should be since he is only 7 montsh old and they are valid for 12 months. and most babies get a blanket referal at birth.

My first was like that too. He grew out of it by 12 months.

I'm still mainly breastfeeding (with some occassional formula feeds). He's always been a chucky baby. I've never thought it to be reflux though. The chucking is getting less and less after feeds now though.

I was kinda thinking it was a mixture of that chuckiness he's always done and a little excitment for going in the car - afterall he is a boy, and all the males in our family and friends circle have a little rev head in them :rolleyes:

I'm going to go to the child health clinic in a couple of weeks, so will mention it to the nurse. I'm not overly concerned though, was just wondering if it was just us. Peace of mind now that I know we are not and that hopefully he will grow out of it soon.

my brotehr had a quick operation to fix his as when they did a scan it actually wasnt closing properly and if left alone woudl of caused him problems later on.
but 99% do close up and are just weak untill they start on solid foods and ahve to actually use the muscell more

Sounds like my DS. He has always been a happy chucker too. It seems to be due to the position he is in; he likes to try and sit up straight or try and play with his toes; this scrunches up his tummy and makes him spew a little. I still always put a bib on him in the carseat when we go out to protect his clothes. Otherwise it doesn't seem to bother him.
