Hi all,
This is, of course, JMO.
It made me kind sad that I had to search high and low for a boy baby doll.
But it made me even sadder that every single baby doll I saw came with a bottle.
A reflection on our society, maybe, that it is so hard to find a doll without one? Ds has his doll, but I've thrown the bottle in the bin- I don't think he'd know what to do with it anyway.
LOL I've had this lament to myself as well, and then had a giggle at it coming with boobies :lol:
Yeah, we won't have doll bottles here either. My son happily breastfeeds his babies hehe :)
When I've proudly told friends that he breastfed the doll, I've had mixed reactions. Some thought it was cute, others were horrified! I'm just proud of the fact that my kids don't know what bottles are, and that my son will more than likely grow up to be a support to his breastfeeding wife!
It is a bit sad isn't it, but I find that the great thing is, Izzy used to bottle feed her dolly when I was pg with James, as she only had a bottle and night and wasn't b'fed anymore. Now though, she breastfeeds ALL her dolls because she watches me feed James a million times a day! :D
i found myself educating my nieces this morning - they're 8 and 4, and both bought baby dolls to stay over at Aunty BG's with them. neither can remember being BF, and the older can't recall the younger being BF - so when they were scrapping over the one bottle - i told them to get over it, bottle feeding shouldn't happen until babies are much older - they should be BF first if their mum's boobs work (my mum had BF issues and couldn't feed, so didn't want judgement if mine don't work!) - anyway, i had to explain what it was, why it is better etc
about an hour later, the older was changing her "baby's" nappy, and asked what else you do with a baby apart from nappy change, BF, burp etc. i was mighty proud - she took it on, and didn't think twice about it - was gorgeous!
BG - yours will work, don't worry :) A lot of our mums had breastfeeding 'issues' but that was usually due to the awful advice they were given. Get ye to a breastfeeding class! hehe.
BG- I was worried about that too when I was pregnant. My mum couldn't feed me, and my gran didn't bf her. They both put their issues down to bad attachment and a lack of practical help available. You, being the informed and empowered chick that you are, will have no worries I'm sure- and if you do, you will know where to go for competent advice.
I was visiting a friend with a 3 year old, and new twins. The 3 year old was showing me how to express, how to breastfeed and how to bottlefeed with "mummy's milk cos sometimes my little sister is a bit tired, but my little brother he is never tired, he can always do it proper" (proper being fed direct from the breast). Very cute

i'm sure as hell gonna give it a good go - apparently (and sorry for the TMI) i now have nipples capable of hanging clothes from (thanks DH!) - so i don't think mum's inverted nipples have been passed on to me. i have already talked to DH about getting a pump and things so that, if i need to bottle feed, i will be able to express and make sure baby gets as much BM as possible. i think Arimeh's expressing journey has helped to see that anything is worth the effort - but i'm also a cheapskate that doesn't want to spend money if i have perfectly good "udders" myself!
DD has been known to comment when she sees someone bottle feeding "oh the poor thing couldn't breast feed" LOL (this was when she was 7!)

Geez, i must be a bit slow on the take, LOL ... as i must have thought the bottle would be full of either expressed boobie milk or formula ;)
A little story for you ... When i owned my 1st barbie doll my Mum caught me trying to pinch the very hard ends of Barbie's hard plastic breasts ... Mum asked me what i was doing and i told her that I was trying to give her nipples as she had none :ROFL: ... Sadly instead of Mum thinking it was a good idea she freaked out & made me feel bad about the idea.
Good on YOU for getting your lil man a doll as i know my nephew when he was 2.5years old just LOVED the doll i gave him :D
When i was a child i lived next door to a family of 7 rough & tumble boys ... they all took turns playing with my dolls & i was happy for them to play with them ... even though i knew it was only when i went to the toilet as they were too embarrassed to play with the dolls in front of me ... i knew when they were playing with them as i could hear my Miss Giggle doll giggle & laugh !!!
Ahh this is one of my bug bears also :( Thankfully though, my DS does breastfeed his teddies and dolls. I haven't bought any dolls for him though - most have been hand me downs sans bottles (I would have chucked them anyway). I did buy a kit last year and made DS a gorgeous "waldorf doll" ...well worth hunting down a hand made one (or making on yourself) if you want to avoid the bottle dilemma.
yep, i have a breastfeeder here too LOL! i actually put one of the photos up in the gallery a couple of days ago as i think it is too cute! although i too have had mixed reactions from ppl. dont think i would get the same reaction if she was bottle feeding though...and no doubt facebook would censor it LOL!
BG: yeah i had some doubts that i would be able to b/f as i had inverted nipples, but DD from about 10 minutes old took care of that! LOL! you can do it sweet, sending all the vibes your way!

As far as I know, here in Holland we do have dolls without bottles. Never actually thought about it really. Will pay more attention next time.
Boy baby dolls, I think I would have a hard time finding one of those too, silly isn't? Why whould all the dolls have to be girls?

My DD is four and right at the age where dolls are just the bomb.
She got dolls for Xmas that came with bottles - I ditched them when she wasn't looking lol.
She was given a set of "twin" babies from my dad for Xmas and I was bursting with pride on Xmas night...she told me they were hungry and they needed a bottle. I told her there was no bottle so she'd have to give them boobie - she then lifted her shirt and stuck one on each boob. My baby was tandem feeding LOL!!
My two year old is still breastfeeding and I try hard to make breastfeeding the norm for DD at home...unfortunately kindy seems to be where all the bottle feeding messages are coming from :(
I have seen breastfeeding dolls somewhere online!! they were hand made, and it was a baby doll with a mother doll, i think they were in fabric. You breastfed the little one with the bigger one who actually had breasts. It might be worth googling, if i can remember where i will let you know. I have lamented about this too..... My DS1 loves "mothering" and has actually told my DH when he grows up he wants to be a mum!
I was getting cranky about this at my Mum's place and she told me it would be very wrong for children to be BFing dolls. I asked why and she was truly horrified - she obviously thought I hadn't thought through what would happen if the doll didn't have a bottle! And I HATE that they have juice in! DS was playing with a bottle of orange juice one day when I picked him up from Nursery and tried to shove it in my mouth. I laughed and told him not to be silly, we don't need bottles and CERTAINLY not bottles of orangy stuff.
When I was little I had dolls without bottles and never even thought that they'd need feeding in any way, shape or form! I was never that much into playing with baby dolls though.
BG, if I can BF without breasts and midwives in the hospital telling me to give up and I'd never do it then you certainly can! Give it a go!
