Anyone had a c/sec at Newcastle Private Hospital recently?

Just wondering if anyone has had a c/sec at NPH recently?

If so were you allowed to have bubs with you in recovery?

I had a c/sec at NPH 3.5 years ago and I was separated from my newborn son for 3 hours while I was sitting waiting in recovery on my own and DH was in the ward cuddling our newborn son who was very hungry, by the time I got back to the ward DS was screaming, not a very good start but he quickly latched on and had a 1 hr breastfeed but the time being on my own was awful, DH wasn`t told when I`d be coming back and was left completely on his own.

I don`t want another repeat of this separation if possible, I`m aware if bubs needs assistance off course that is important but if all is well I`d love bubs and DH to be with me but do they allow bubs and DH to be in recovery with you??

I will be asking my OB all this, I`ll let him know about my pass experience.

I am having a c/section there on Tuesday.I'll post again afterwards and let you know. My OB said that I can keep bubs with me in recovery and has put this on my antinatal record, but this may be because this time of year there are very few people being operated on. Elective surgery is put on hold for the xmas and new year break. There are only two other people so far that are having a c/section on the same day and they are both before me so I should be in recovery by myself.Anyway I will let you know when I get home. Should be able to post agin by the end of next week.

thought i'd bump this up for you :) Hoping someone who has had one recently can advise. Good luck with it, I'm sure if you asked them before you go in for the c/s that they would either oblige or give reasons why it can't happen? cheers.

LB - If I remember correctly from another thread your also under Dr Lowe aren`t you? I haven`t mentioned anything to him as yet, hes going to give me some dates for my c/sec after I have my 20 week scan and I`ll mention what I`d like to happen to him then, another thing as well my DS was bathed soon after birth without me being there, I DO NOT want that to happen there is no need for them to be bathed so early. That`s fantastic your allowed bubs in recovery with you, when I had my c/sec I was the last one done for the day and they were just sitting around talking about going home :rolleyes:

yes I am under Dr. Lowe. He told me that newborns are no longer bathed on the day of birth either. They are usually bathed the next day. I also feel the same about bathing them straight away - they don't need it. I am taking my own bottle of filtered water with me and will bath her in that anyway as most of my family have very sensitive skin and I don't want my baby put in a bath of chlorinated tap water.
In any case it's your baby and if anyone suggests that you bath her straight away you can just say no, they can't force you to.
I have found Dr. Lowe to be very accommodating with my requests. I have also asked to defer the VitK and HepB shots and he was fine with that.

That`s great that they aren`t bathed on the same day, that`s a very good idea about taking your own water, we all have sensitive skin as well.

Glad to hear Dr Lowe has been very accomadating with you, I thought he would be that way.

Had the c/sect on Tuesday. We have our beautiful girl. She was allowed in recovery with me and DH. The hospital was very cooperative with my requests and I was very happy with the stay there.
The c/sect was my first and very interesting. The Dr. and theatre staff just chatted casually through the whole thing which was very relaxing, I didn't even know they had started the op. Just before she was born they lowered the drapes and lifted my head up so I could see her pop out. Got immediate skin to skin contact. The whole birth and stay in hospital was very pleasant, hope it all goes well for you too.

Yep - c/s on 18 Dec but Bub had to go straight up to Level 2 nursery as I had him at 35 weeks. There was a couple next to me though and I am sure they had their Bub with them (sorry but the morphine clouds the memory a little). I was only in recovery for around an hour. DH went up to the nursery for the first half hour or so but then he came down and spent at least 20mins with me before going back up to the nursery. Maybe you could call the hospital and check what the policy is? Good luck and I hope things go how you are hoping they will.

LB - Congratulations, sounds like you had a great experience and thank you for coming back in and letting me know how it all went. I had my appointment yesterday with Dr Lowe and because he`ll be away next time he booked my c/sec in yesterday so Imentioned about what happened with Matthew, he said it`s all very different now and like you he said bubs will be passed straight to me for skin to skin contact then we`ll be in recovery together so I feel so much happier now :D
